Surprised by the lack of discussion of Gemini demo by Google being misleading. I thought it was a major blunder by one of the biggest players in the AI space.
The few times I've seen it mentioned is "If you believe demos you're a retard and deserve it."

Unrelated note I'm gonna go check in on Yudd.

Let's talk about it now, then.

Here's the original release video:

Here are some responses:

Channel 1, an AI powered 24/7 newsroom has just featured its AI anchors. Its so over for journalists, hope they are learning to code.

It could be attractive in a way, because it hurts journo scums.

Unfortunately, AI is pretty much spewing back what was fed to it, so this is just a one extra step differentiation.

Only news anchors will be affected, and these are even less qualified to call themselves journalists than Buzzfeed tests content creators are.

Total death is the only way.

The sad thing is, even knowing how trivial introducing bias to this system would be, I find it more trustworthy than any other live news broadcast I've seen in the past five years. There's something inherently trustworthy in being spoken to by someone who isn't being a smug, condescending, opinionated prick as he speaks.

Just imagine the inevitable future, where AI steadily take over jobs of journalist and news channels. I mean they already use the technology now to write articles with little human inputs in some regards. :cryblood:

As funny as it is to say Total Journo Death I fail to see what even is the product here.

"Fully AI generated news channel!" ...so? Are you literally generating the news too? Because if so then it isn't news. They are cutting off the journos who actually speak the bullshit but not the ones who write it. They still need actual sources on shit, which probably means this "channel" is literally no different from another million garbage news media whose entire M.O. is repeating what they heard from someone else.

There is no product here, no actual news production. They are actually doing worse than those bottom of the barrel content aggregators because they are wasting time and CPU cycles on generating the A.I. models and voices. The only thing they are offering is a seamless regurgitation of the content already made, they will never have a first scoop or break the news.

It's literally nothing.

They probably have it hooked up the AP news wire and whatever service news studios use to get footage.

How does anyone look at fake news anchors using fake voices and think "I can trust the news they are reporting to be 100% true and fact checked". the size of the grain of salt you'd need to take to believe anything reported on this "newsroom" would crush you.

i mean people trust what CNN and MSNBC report so i can see how they would fall for it

I remember a no name gaming site that scraped reddit for news and accidentally reported features that didn't even exist because they were deliberately fucking with it.

I remember that. It was the WoW subreddit. They found out some gaming sites were using bot scrapping and agreed to all come by the next day or something and act out with a total bullshit new WoW mechanic and pets and expansion pack. Worked flawlessly.

Now see THIS might have been useful.

Are you literally generating the news too?
Looks like they plan to generate headlines and stories for the AI generated news anchor to read. Journos still have to report the news so that the AI can generate its news stories, so they have much less to fear from this than the news anchors do. Anchors however, might be approaching obsolescence, because their machine counterparts can work 24/7, never age, never get sick, and you can even customize their looks completely to your liking.

We've all seen the compilations of news stations reading the exact same news stories word for word. They already look the same, say the same things, and speak in the same cadence. They are basically machines already, so this move makes perfect sense to me.

Prepare to explain to your grandma that the reason the lady in the TV can work continuously without sleep is because she is a machine ghost. (I guess they will probably switch out the anchors to make it seem as though they need to sleep, which is pretty creepy on its own too)
