AI Dungeon applies filter to ban child sexual content, Redditors and Discord users most affected

Well, it's been a year-ish now. If you're curious, AI Dungeon is basically dead now.
It's certainly dead on Reddit, with only 60-someodd users.

There's hardly any user content that actually gets visible. On the one hand, virtually all of the sex/furry stuff is now filtered out and will never see human eyes. On the other hand, no one with actual talent or care, and hardly anyone with imagination, uses the site.

AI Dungeon has steadily monetized to offset this, using an Energy system similar to what was found in the likes of Triple Town (and what is still sorta found in Writing.com for the Interactives/Choose-Your-Own-Adventures/Cancer-Inducing-Porn), but they've recently decided on what amounts to giving up: starting on June 30th, they're going to let people buy the monetization-less format, with unlimited uses, on Steam.

I wonder what the price will be.

Honestly I like AI Dungeon just because of the time Lowtax (rest in piss) got gangraped in Home Depot by a bunch of ratmen, which is pretty much the old AI Dungeon aesthetic.

Oh no.

Ohhhhhhhh no.

I'm sure 'she' is, hon.

Along with the announcement of the free AI image generator, it seems there's now a caveat for AI Dungeon's free users: if you want to use the redo, undo, or similar actions, you have to watch an advertisement to refresh your actions when they run out. You get a good 10 actions by watching a single ad, so it's not as intrusive as I thought, but I guess that all depends on how well the AI does at not messing up the story.
Considering the push into mobile-style payments they were making with the whole "AI Dungeon Scales (AIDS)" pay-per-action thing they were doing before, this isn't too surprising. At the same time, though, introducing stuff like this after your social media spaces revolted and users started making an exodus comes off as pretty desperate to find some way to keep monetization going. I wonder if the investors are pushing for it or if the Waltons thought this was a good compromise to let free users stay engaged.

Did they ever wean themselves off of OpenAI and into their own (smaller, cheaper) model and server farm, or are they still paying an arm and a leg for each batch of generations? I also don't see this really helping out in terms of viral/stream marketing, since the interest of previous years has probably died off, and I don't see guys who helped popularize the site like Vinny coughing up another payment just to look at the pictures without ads, since OpenAI's own DALL-E 2 is in invite beta, and Mini is available for everybody.
