It doesn't give any other result than her so I think it's a misspelling of Dzimowicz which is Polish in origin.
Dzimowicz is in itself a very uncommon name, just as the spelling Zimowicz with only 86 people in Poland who have it as a surname. I can only find one post on My heritage for a person who was born/baptised with the surname name Dzimowicz.

So I'm thinking they either made it up or changed it at some point in the family history.

I could have sworn that I'd actually found evidence that it was definitely Polish, but now I can't remember what it was or where I saw it. It's her dad's surname, and he lives in Illinois. His first name is John.

I wouldn't doubt that. I didn't mind him too much until that interview with Hannah. Basically exaggerating details and still rolling with it anyway even after Hannah said she couldn't confirm them. Also slut shaming Alex (let her be a whore. Who knows if she'll live past 30?)

Oh and he was mocking her voice too which if you've seen other interviews of woman with SMA they sound similar since the disease effects their vocal chords. Alex is a menace to society but I can't wait until stuff comes out about the dad podcast guy, probably a la the 8 passengers chick.

A relatively common occurrence with migrants back in the day was officials in their new country just straight up butchering spelling (or totally changing to something "less German sounding" for some after WWII) on official documents and just having to live with it.

Or people not knowing how to officially spell their own name, my grandpa spelled his named several different ways throughout his life.

The thing that bugs me is that it's so far from other recognisable names. The people I could find with the alternative spellings on a Polish site were all from the beginning of the last century or just before, even though there's data up till at least the 70s depending on region.
The name that comes closest is Dzikowicz which is a fairly common name.

So I'm really really curious about what it was originally and whether it was misspelt by officials or if they changed it themselves. Changing it to something that sounds really Polish but isn't would be a weird thing to do.

I've seen non-obvious changes occur due to shitty handwriting. If that's the case here then "k" became "mt" which isn't a massive stretch.
