No kidding. So many great games in the 90’s (Fallout, Baldurs Gate, Half-Life), and this dumbass picks a mediocre FPS to be his obsession.

I never picked up Baldur's Gate personally but I'm open to suggestions from that era of any genre. Even the bad games are better than the crap we get now.

I think those were the biggest in the earlier era - King's Quest was big in the late 80s and early 90s, late 90s brought us that terrible action-adventure part about people turned into stone that everybody hated.
Same with Maniac Mansion: late 80s, early 90s. I highly recommend fan remake of the first MM.
Monkey Island remained relevant up until late 90s and then they made that awful pseudo-3D one.
And to add a few: Gabriel Knight (mostly the first one), Grim Fandango, Sanitarium, Phantasmagoria (a milestone in FMV adventure games, very gory).

I forgot about Sanitarium, that's an amazing game. Great horror atmosphere, art and assets, just a good suggestion all around. Another that I hadn't mentioned was Legend of Kyrandia.

A big problem, with the genre in general is as they went on the puzzles became more outlandish and ridiculous. You could easily get stuck in a dead save if you entered places in the wrong order or missed certain items turning it into a pixel hunt where you needed a guide.

Great genre, but as it grew bigger and more ambitious the cracks grew alongside it unfortunately.
