Alice: Madness Returns

I've been meaning to play this game again! It's been years since I touched it. It's a really good game with awesome monster designs, music and set pieces. Only thing I hated was how long some of the chapters take to finish. They overstay their welcome a bit, but otherwise I recommend this gem of a game.

Alice 1 was poor, poor third person game when PC devs tried to make console games. It also rode heavily on Tim Burton's coattails while giving goth girls tired ideas. It was Sucker Punch years before Sucker Punch.

It's interesting how Alice is a relatively cult game that most non-PC gamers have probably never heard of but it was the inspiration of so much artwork and cosplayers that it's aesthetic is probably what most young people associate most with Alice in Wonderland.

Something similar I think is Harley Quinn in her sexy nurse outfit from Arkham Asylum. No girls wanted to be Harley Quinn when she was in a jester jumpsuit but Arkham Asylum made her sexy and it was copied so much people forgot the source.

Alice = average platformer but a unique atmosphere, overall good

Madness Returns = still a boring platformer but the atmosphere was no longer new, shit

The books = they're not dark or about drugs or anything like people seem to think these days

madness reutrn is like the sequel of tim burton alice movie. Everything in the design barely any substence

Is it easy to pirate this game? I had it for PS3 as a kid, never finished it, don't know what happened to it. Lewis Carrol's Alice is my favorite book and I like seeing all the adaptations of it, even the dumb edgy ones.

I liked it but every level felt like it dragged on for too long and by the end you always felt sick of a level, it felt padded.

I have a soft spot for the original Alice too, yes the gameplay is clunky but it looks so fucking cool and had such a great atmosphere, I'll never forget the day I saw the game box in Wal-Mart, I was transfixed by the cover art, it blew my mind.

I have the artbook for this. From the contents of the book and how the game plays, it seems they had amazing stuff they had severe technical problems with implementing. McGee's decision to try to do everything with a Chinese dev house seems a bad idea in retrospect.

Oh yeah, that artbook is incredible.

I should probably try the original one since I finally have a shit toaster good enough to do it.
iirc didn't the first one have some shit platform sequences?

Yep. You'll see them coming so you can save before then at least, and the game lets you save and reload anywhere so they're not too ball busting.

If you're having trouble with some platforming, Alice will also allow you to aim at a specific floor spot for a few seconds and the cursor will turn into feet. Press space once and Alice will jump to that exact spot.

It's a little clunky, but it really isn't too bad overall, I think it's a pretty good game for the era, although of course the real draw is the atmosphere.

Oh yeah the sequel to American McGee that retconned a pedophile who pimp children to others of his kind as why the fire that killed her fire was started and not an accident caused by Alice's black Cat as seen in the first game opening cutscene (Not joking at all btw )
