I used to browse both cripplechan and 420chan, but now I only use 4chan exclusively due to a lack of better options.

There was this one dead neo-nazi imageboard called 4chon(dot)net that was ran by this guy called savetheinternet. He was an employer for staff on the site and programmed tinyboard — an imageboard creating script. He also once started his own abortive web hosting company called shotgunhost, which failed to kick off. In 2011, he hacked Encyclopedia Dramatica’s forum page after Zaiger set the forum password to “niggers1”, to which he then posted the email addresses of EDF users on pastebin under the pseudonym “P.F.” before sending the information to Daniel Brandt. He was later doxed himself. The guy was a huge lolcow on IRC and threatened to DDOS ED users. Thanks to Ryan Cleary of LulzSec, 4chon(dot)net got kicked off of DreamHost.

I also remember 711chan as well.

Does anyone think this “8kun” thing will last?

I highly recommend Julay World and the other, smaller sites on its webring. Most of the old communities from 8ch seem to have migrated here or to the smaller sites. The activity levels are still pretty low compared to what they were on 8ch, but more traffic is coming in all the time. Except for this and some small cosmetic differences, the Julay boards are more or less identical to their former counterparts on 8ch, so you should be able to find what you are looking for there.
