Isn't there a treasure trove of furry lolcows on Mastodon now? I've seen it mentioned infrequently amongst them.
I thought that was Telegram... their on Mastodon as well?

I've never used it, but if thats the case i'll take it off my list.

The unfortunate reality is that a decent portion of furries are tech-oriented, and jump on these alternative platforms much like the alt-right is doing. Especially when one considers the fact that there is crossover between these two groups.

The federated nature of Mastodon should make that a non-issue. Instances can also block each other, see Gab.

I'm surprised there isn't more of this kinda stuff hosted via hidden services, considering how accessible TOR is nowadays

huh... was not expecting a lot of Japanese users and Waifu posters on that, but ok.
The 'known timeline' will basically pull in not just content from users on the server, but users on other servers they follow (as the server needs to retrieve those to show them to the people who are following them). So in theory one could set up an account and do nothing but follow particularly weird accounts, and that would be shown in that sort of public 'known timeline' view. It looks like it might block images though, which... makes sense.

Recently I've been fascinated with alternative tech because of the recent censorship with Facebook and Twitter, alternative tech is basically alternative to social media, search engines, app stores, and email.
Kiwi Farms itself hosts a Pleroma (Twitter), a Matrix (Discord) and email. Android has a somewhat robust alt app repository(s) with F-Droid. Searx is a pretty good search engine, not as good as Google based ones, but about on par with DDG, Bing, etc.

There are all kinds of solutions to mainstream tech monopolies. But most people have a hard time transitioning off the old social media because they're used to a celebrity-focused culture.

It exists but virtually no one actually uses Tor casually, so it's not worth taking seriously as an alternative. For that to happen Tor has to be just as accessible as clearnet, which ofc, means less secure, and then you've more or less defeated the purpose anyway.

Not the protocol I'd gamble on for mainstream privacy in the long term.

I kinda think of those as different service providers using the same technology.

Now ham radio and snailmail...those are alternative technologies
shit I haven't been on fidonet in years, how's that going

I don't know how fidonet is doing since no one has POTS lines anymore, but ham and cb is booming because of people stuck at home in lockdowns.

Courier pigeons are still being bred, though mostly in Europe. Does alt-tech necessarily have to be something new?

For those who are looking for a Twitch alternative, I suggest using DLive. Here's the link in case you want to make an account: https://dlive.tv/
Isn't that a Chinese infested site that mines you for virtual coins or something? I could have sworn that was one of the concerns MisterMetokur had when he was using it once stream.me died. I know his last stream on there got insta-banned when he started shit-talking the chinese.
