Saying that "The only thing invincible has going for it is that you don't need to read a dozen comics to get it" is like saying "The only reason you don't drop dead this instant is because the room you're in has oxygen."

This is literally the reason comics are dying and manga is taking over. Its not that the writing is astronomically superior (that said the abyssal writing in comics doesn't help) its that comics are an impenetrable brick wall.

Not only is it slop, its inaccessible slop. You can't approach it and even if you could, you have no reason to.
Thing is, Marvel and DC on occasion show that they understand this and they make more self-contained comic book runs like Absolute or Ultimate.
But then some faggot ruins the runs entirely for no reason, inevitably.

I genuinely don't even know if DC are aware how reviled their big event crossovers end up being.

When I think of an angel, I think divine, absolute power made manifest.
It's so annoying that countless stories do EVERYTHING they can with demons, but I swear I've never seen a story actually make angels, the envoys and warriors of god, cool when it should be very, very easy. There's a new setting every week about demonic cities and hierarchies, but I genuinely can't recall a single series at the top of my head that actually worldbuilds heaven to any degree more significant than people going there when they die.

Hollywood writers are demonic faggots. They're taught to write what they know, so...

I think that is the reason why The Dark Knight Returns is still popular, because it just is an actual fucking send off to a popular character, something that comic heroes usually never get. (Also yes I know it technically isn't part of any main continuity but who the fuck cares.)

Western super hero comics are just such a weirdly unique thing where after basically a century of not being allowed to permanently kill of popular characters (which basically includes everyone who normies know) and having to reboot storylines to clean up continuity it is just such a weird interconnected mess that is just too daunting for new readers, or in genral anyone that wants to engage with something without having to read a journal.

Funnily enough even reddit DC fans seem to agree that the brand imploded after the Metal Saga shenanigans.

Invincible basically being cleaned up DC lite with a bit of Dragonball is a fun concept, but like many authors that copy stuff they like Kirkman ends up repeating some flaws of his source material, like having big catastrophic events that have seemingly no lasting impact except when the story says so, or has them in an inverted form, like how instead of having to read tons of comics about different characters to know what's going on he has multiple important characters in his single main storyline, but most of them are underdeveloped. (Like what is the deal with the two black guys that wear a purple and a yellow suit, they just seem to exist and that's it.)

In his 90s JLA series, Grant Morrison had an invading army of angels descending upon Earth. Of particular note is blue electric Superman wrestling the lead angel. Zauriel, a former guardian angel and then-stand-in for Hawkman, eventually joined the JLA.

Funnily enough I actually like the Metal Saga.

Modern day DC comics always just danced around the fact that over time they just became increasingly goofy-edgy shlock, but the metal Saga just publically embraces what DC has become without any false pretenses, including a main antagonist who is the dysfunctional living embodiment of decades lasting Joker and Batman simping from fans.

The story actually ripped of the tattered mask from the demented face of the brand so it could have fun for one last time while riding a nuke into a volcano.

you need help, my nigger
this isn't healthy, safe, or sane

I said I like it, not that I think it's good, lol.

But no person on this planet can tell me that reading a super serious Batman story where they unironically introduce a Batman metal called Batmanium and somehow absolutely nobody involved stopped for two seconds and thought "wait, that's retarded" isn't funny.

If you have a trash factory then the guy who just decides to burn down the entire thing is more funny than the other people that just produce more trash.

In a way it's like Sonichu, but unlike the former it doesn't just gives a weird insight into the demented mind of a single person but of an entire decades old brand.

Anyway, if you've not injected yourself with liquid mercury, here's man of the people prime time talking about how little a fuck he gives about DC events nowadays (prior to him becoming popular from saying this and being lobotomized into Gwenpool but Superman a few years later)

I still can't believe they published the audience insert character saying "fuck this, this is dogshit."

There are many parts of the comic that are weirdly self aware.

Many fans complained that the Batman who laughs is trash and Owlman is a much better evil version of Batman, but then the comic has Owlman saying straight up the exactly same thing word for word in the actual comic like the authors just copied a random forum post.

That was hilarious

Owlman flat out calls TBWL boring and poorly written and that's why he'll die but Owlman will always come back.

They did the "supersane" Joker shit. Again.
