She was able to do so much more back then though. This last hundred elbees really crippled her. She used to be able to stand and walk for over 3 minutes at a time, she would do her hair rather than wear it in a poop bun 365 days a year, she would go out to eat with friends/coworkers and she'd have them come over as well. We made fun of her insanely tacky jewelry but at least she accessorized in a way that was aesthetically pleaseen to her, and she hasn't bothered to do that in a really long time.

Not that her life was glamorous or fulfilling or anything. But when I see her with her nails done and it takes me back to those days it's really staggering how much she declined both physcially and mentally since she moved in with Becky.

This gorl has not been under 400 since middle school, she was 430 at age 18

Maybe, but she was still very social and had a lot of (what she considered) fun, went womart hoardeen, luncheen with friends. Got her nails done, wore her hair down. She may have been heartbroken over Destiny, but she was still living an active life.

I think there were many straws (warping the expression should be allowed given amber's size). Leaving her job and staying home all day meant she had no reason to get up, get ready, or participate in hangouts after work with coworkers like she used to. Part of her relationship breakdown with destiny was probably due to the fact that she was no longer a fun, people person. She never wanted to go out with destiny and have fun (as opposed to go out mainly to have food).

I think the main, main straw was just Becky. Becky is like a fog of gloom, and add that to amber's general gloomy outlook. Amber no longer had to pretend to be fun anymore, because low-energy becky wasn't fun. They were both fine to color, watch movies, play games and not socialize at all. I'm sure there are places even in their backwoods areas where they could go to make some friends, but they seem content to have nobody but each other. Isolation has brought out the worst in Amber (which is something because interactive amber was pretty shitty too), and she's no longer fighting her slovenly ways, and there's no reason to shower or do her hair or anything. So circling back, quitting her job was the first step in no longer having to be presentable on the regular, or interactive.

Obviously, Amber's ultimately responsible for herself but Becky's a lazy, gluttonous sloth that revels in her doom and gloom. Both of their shit is just compounding and dragging them both down. An active/motivating partner with an actual backbone would do wonders for her but someone like that can do much better than our gorl.

I see it more as things snowballing from there rather than a straw that broke the camel's back situation type deal. After the breakup she stopped taking care of herself and leaving the house, ordering in massive amounts of food. She attempted to get it back together at one point and that's when Becky came along.

Now I never liked Becky, not even when everyone was fawning over her because of how sweet and pure she supposedly was. But I also don't think she's as much to blame for Amber's deterioration as people accuse her of. I've shared my thoughts on this in previous posts so I won't bore your guys by repeating them. Regardless of how much she contributed to it and why, the fact remains that AL managed to obtain exactly what she wanted: she gets to stay home all day every day, she gets to have her gorlfriend under her thumb (no pun intended!) and at her disposal at all times, and she gets to devote her time to childish pastimes and her favorite activity -- eating. Ironically, obtaining everthing she wanted exactly as she wanted it is the worst thing that could have happened to her.

Ultimately it's not Destiny's fault for leaving and it's not Becky's fault for "enabling". It's nobody's fault. Imo it's 100% Amber's own self-destructive patterns that are to blame and they would have brought her to this weight and this level of incapacitation regardless of who she was or wasn't with because it's her mental that dictates her monstrously shitty circumstances rather than the other way around.

I basically agree, except I think Amber's baseline is depressed slug, and she met her mirror in Becky who is also a depressed slug who takes on other people's personalities. She had a social life before Amber. There was Rafe and her wife, and she was social with Eric and Rickey. Together Amber and Becky are their worst and most real selves.

I agree she was happiest with Krystle. She had no responsibilities, lots of people around her taking care of her, making her shower, etc.

Yes actually. The weight gain was rapid and her personality decline was rapid as well. Without destiny I think she just gave up. Not only on her outward appearance but on herself over all. Becky won't ever push her to be her best self. Becks is essentially a breathy blob. She exists. And as AL likes to become her partner in a way, she simply exists now as well. Her only joy is food.

If she was stuck with Becky, she would give into the idea of getting married. Amberlynn has an exit strategy.
