from what i can tell this game seems to be a rip off of a IRC game i played ages ago, maybe one of you know it. We all had to find some kind of killer, and there was a village idiot that if died the killer lost.
Yup, Mafia and Werewolf are the same game and they've spawned a shit ton different variations, house rules and what have you, one of the variations is Among us. The basic premise is always the same, there is a group of good players and evil players. The evil players know each other, but the good players only know the number of the evil players but not who is in the group. The good players win if the evil group is wiped out, the evil players win if the good group is wiped out. There's a few different variants of the basic concept. It goes back at least to the 80's as a party game. You're probably describing Werewolf, but it might be Mafia (they're basically the same game, but the Village Idiot title is more of a Werewolf thing).

Then there are two play cycles. During the night the evil group meets and decides who to kill, after it is decided the target is killed and day starts. During the day the killed player is revealed, everyone tries to guess who the killers are and if someone is accused more than half the people have to vote for their execution. If the vote passes, they are executed, if no vote passes that day, then nobody is killed and night starts again.
Now here's where all kinds of different roles come in, most of them are house rules, but the most basic one is an Investigator role who is a member of the good party who every night can choose which player to investigate after which he finds out whether they're good or evil-aligned. There's militia, a member of the good group who can kill a player either each night or a limited number of times in a game. There's false alignments, a role where a good player appears guilty if investigated, and an evil player who appears good (usually called the Godfather). Then there's third parties which have wildly different win conditions, there's one role which wins if it gets itself killed before a certain number of day/night cycles occur. There's much more types of roles but here are just the most basic ones.
We need to carry out a holocaust against journalists
Because if they can make an entirely new lexicon and define its rules, they think they can eke out a technical victory by entrapping their mortal foes and people like Klamportd Dniphfth, Orange Be His Name in weird linguistic gotchas and then cancel them.why do they keep making up shit
the writer of this article doesnt like fun do they? they'd rather you play some bullshit game with no real gameplay and a half baked story right?
