I think what happened after that is they pulled back a safe distance, and just watched. Waiting for him to fuck up.

No need for that. Singapore is so 'backwards' and 'authoritarian' that it appears to have actual mental hospitals in which to put people so deranged and dangerous that they cannot be out in the community. Such a facility would likely be the best place to store Yee, though prison is fine too.

You are correct that no asian country (to my knowledge) believes in free speech. Social cohesion, perception and doing your job > free speech. Don't think he can do military service to make up for it. Once you dodge the draft, that's probably it there. He won't do it anyways because a) he's narcissistic and has a history of authority problems, b) Singapore, like many asian countries, put punishment over rehabilitation and c) he did the appeal to the US to both avoid the sentence and to duck service.

Honestly, it's in his best interest to go back, because the penalties here for the shit he just pulled might be more severe than what Singapore might apply for his crimes he committed there. This is leverage for his deportation. So much so I don't know if his lawyers would even want to oppose it again, if it were offered, in lieu of a full sentence.

Sure, in Singapore, they can literally beat your ass with a bamboo cane. Here though, we'll throw your ass in a hole and then throw away the fucking hole. 23 hours a day in solitary strikes me as a worse fate. Not all scars are physical. Not even the worst ones.
