Skitzocow Amos Yee - Public Child Porn advocate, Arrested for possessing child porn, Currently in prison

  • Happy Easter!
So in short, would you say he's legitimately been "persecuted" to some extent for saying shit that would have been let slide in a less uptight country, but at the same time, he also actually really is an asshole?

Echoing what @darkhorse816 said, there is a not in significant degree of actual state persecution in Amos' case, but yeah it's quite likely that he also is a fucking asshole.

The whole country is a lolcow p. much.

I've been following Amos Yee for a while, and the guy, imo, needs attention, and a lot of it. The incident with LKY earned him attention he wanted, and he used the same method to gain even more attention, feeding into a never ending loop.

This behaviour didn't start right at the LKY incident though. My friend was from the same secondary school as him and said he had to do an apology speech in front of the entire school when he was 14/15 for... I don't remember, I'll have to ask. Singapore may be a hard ass country but I guarantee you have to be a real piece of shit to warrant that kind of punishment in school, especially since parents will complain to teachers/the internet/administration and the school will get a bad rep, and reputation is crucial in Singapore (or most Asian countries in general).

It was quite a while ago, but he was attacked(?) in a shopping mall. A lot of people took photos and videos but no one stepped in. A bit more recent, but he has gone to jail. He'll be released on November 19, and hopefully there'll be more content then.

Bonus: I went through his twitter. Amos Yee supports Anita Sarkeesian, and is now a feminist. He is also a communist, thinks anarchism isn't idealistic, and claims "there will be more law and order in an anarchist society". He kinda sounds like one of those Tumblr SJWs now.

EDIT: I think this screenshot sums him up in a nutshell.

Amos Yee is planning to seek asylum. USA, please, keep him! :D

Apparently Amos has been put in solitary confinement in the US. This is after he apparently went to the US to seek asylum in December:

Another site reported further on the solitary confinement:
<Update on Amos Yee contributed by Jason>

Amos is presently in solitary confinement for criticizing Muslims & Islam during their Muslim Studies in jail. He is feeling terrible.

Here's what happened, from Nina Paley:

"He attended a Muslim Studies class, in order to "disagree". There was a "Muslim pastor" from outside (not a prisoner) and about 18 Muslim prisoners in attendance. Amos called Allah a "sky wizard". He said that if the religion is 5,000 years old then it's "complete fucking garbage". (He said "fuck" a lot). He said that the Quran has passages instructing the devout to kill non-Muslims; the pastor handed him the Quran and challenged him to show such passages, and when Amos said "Ok, I will", the pastor took the Quran back.

The pastor claimed "The Quran was the most respected and popular book in the U.S."

The pastor said Amos was disturbing the peace or something and got Sergeant R.Henson to sign a form putting him in solitary. Amos is certain that he is in solitary for punitive reasons, not for his own protection.

He has been in solitary for 3 days. He doesn't know how long he will be there. They don't let him write, don't give him paper. They let him out for one hour per day.

Amos was "kicking, screaming, and banging the door yelling "LET ME OUT", other prisoners heard him, the "police" came, opened his door, took a look, and left.

Amos wants us to "tell his story" on Facebook, share with the global secular human rights movement, get on CNN and the Rubin Report. He wants the Rubin Report to interview me and Melissa to tell Amos's story. "These people don't know what they're messing with. We gotta destroy them." "MAKE IT BIG". "This is a free speech issue and everyone will be on my side".

++++

My main concern right now is for Amos's mental health. Solitary must be making it much worse.

On the one hand:

:neckbeard:

On the other hand, putting a euphoric in solitary confinement for speaking his mind is just stupid.

If he actually did that shit to a bunch of prison Muslims, trust me, he really is in there for his own protection and would probably be stomped into a jelly within minutes if they let him out, before being repeatedly raped.

I remember this guy. Gained positive attention because Adam Saleh (the 'prankster' who got kicked off of a Delta flight for "speaking another language") tried to call him racist for disliking Muslims, 4 months later got his ass handed to him by EdgySphinx (an open alt-righter and potential lolcow, if he still makes videos or tweets) in a debate about child porn, where Amos was trying to argue that the age of consent was "arbitrary".

So, yeah. He's a pedo.

I think Muslim prisoners in the US is more like Nation of Islam gangbangers, not so much ragheads, so yeah, his life probably was in danger staying in general population

They wouldn't be doing it for jihad, they'd be doing it because he's a mouthy little bitch who needed stomped.

Criminalising criticism of religion, whether by a state like Singapore or by the religion itself like most schools of Islam, is a terrible idea. If people grow up thinking their belief system can't be criticised, whether from law or just what they've been taught growing up, then when it does get criticised, they see the critic as a criminal to be punished.

And that's how you get the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

On a side note, Singapore is so afraid of insulting religious people that they've never decriminalised sodomy, even though the Prime Minister doesn't want the law being enforced. People portray them as some kind of iron-fisted regime but they're actually cowards who don't want to go after people who might actually be dangerous.

I think the guy's pretty nuts, but he comes off as a troll who started believing his own hype and got invested too much, or just isn't that funny, rather than a genuine paedo/sectarian. Still, he's wound up the government of Singapore with his words to the point where they keep throwing him in jail, and have tarnished their own reputation in doing so. Singapore has had an effective slap in the face- a citizen successfully claiming political asylum is a black mark against a country that says it's a democracy.

People portray them as some kind of iron-fisted regime but they're actually cowards who don't want to go after people who might actually be dangerous.

There's a good deal of truth to this- their famous drug policy that leads to a load of executions tends to result in the executions of dimwits from shitty countries- they'll happily hang a nigger or a Flip, but there was a case where the accused were German nationals, and the EU was conducting trade talks with Singapore at the same time. The charges were quietly reduced or dropped. Amusingly, reporting such things in Singapore can get you in trouble, a British journalist called Alan Shadrake got himself jailed for "criticising the judiciary" when he wrote about these sorts of cases.

I honestly can't blame Amos Yee for wanting to wind such people up, but he's going to have to find a new schtick in a country where nothing he's said could get him punished.

Executions are pretty rare in Singapore. The number varies between 0 and 4 a year and I don't think there have been any this year so far. I get the impression hangings for drug trafficking are done every so often to make an example of people rather than being a general policy; the death sentence isn't mandatory. Saying that there are a "load" of executions is pretty misleading; Texas executes more people than Singapore every year, though obviously only for murder.

The Philippines, on the other hand, is probably going to have a near slaughterhouse once they restore capital punishment this year.

Death sentence is still mandatory if you've bought or sold the stuff, or absent an affirmative defence.

The number of executions is still quite low. From what I can gather there were 3 last year, 2 for drug trafficking and 1 for murder. All the prisoners were foreign. I'd be very surprised if every captured drug dealer was hanged.

His asylum claim went through: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-39388810

I'm honestly kind of surprised.

DHS can appeal that.

IMO technically he qualifies, even though he's kind of a dick. Singapore is a country that the U.S. has acknowledged has a history of serious freedom of speech violations, Yee has in fact been imprisoned there for expressing opinions that would have been protected in the U.S. by the First Amendment, and unlike certain other asylum applicants I could name, while he entered the country on a tourist visa, he immediately applied for asylum while his original legal entry to the country was still valid.

That generally raises a red flag, as it sort of means your original application for a tourist visa wasn't quite on the up and up, but it doesn't really prejudice the asylum procedure against you, although you usually get detained. What they really hate is if you overstay a visa and only then apply for asylum.
