An update to dislikes on YouTube

Youtube doesn't give a fuck unless everyone moves on a different platform or sacks their HQ like that crazy woman years ago. Not doing any glowposting, but most of these people would not yield unless threatened with something now.

I personally can still see dislikes on Chrome, Firefox, and mobile -- but maybe it hasn't universally rolled out yet.

Also I noticed that even the fat, ugly sycophant Ethan Klein of all people made a plea to keep dislikes, and he infamously speaks to Susan Wojicki on a first name basis, so make of that what you will.

I'm gray-pilled on this whole ordeal, aka both blackpilled and whitepilled. The blackpill in me tells me this is a permanent feature at the hands of corporate media and the White House and just another terrible thing that spells the ultimate doom for Youtube, but the whitepill in me says that maybe the overwhelming backlash causes them to backtrack eventually. Let's just see how it plays out, folx.

Am I reading this correctly or he's saying that harmful steps should not be allowed to be pointed out by anyone else? That's not mob justice, that's helping other human beings to not face any problems. And mostly if you get mobbed, chances that it's your own fault and yep, this is unfortunately happening on someone undeserving as well. Thankfully, sometimes that is a self-correcting problem where people will push the likes to overwhelm the dislikes or at least be at level with it.

I really really really really really really really doubt YT would back out from this considering they've been doing shit people hate and not learning about it, or they just sweep it in the rug. They'll bring back the dislike button if their agenda fits (eg. getting trump elected and he posts on the white house would be one), or people indeed do a mass exodus + a very large majority puts up an adblock and uses apps that pushes their ads away like Youtube vanced. Those two, or they all get sacked for their agendas IRL. Which are all very less likely to happen.

This is obviously just for Lee's selfish reasons. "You should just try every how-to guide until you find one, even the shitty ones and scams!"

What a cunt, I can imagine why he probably hates dislikes.

He's just buttblasted. If only possible for every mishap by those shitty how-to videos caused he should be facing a liability charge or something for it.

Watching Matt Koval's announcement about the removal of dislikes, I thought something was off. The spoken words did not match the eyes. The video reminded me of an interview Admiral Jeremiah Denton gave in 1966. I have never seen a less enthusiastic, more reluctant announcement of something that is supposed to be great.

Calling the removal of dislikes a good thing for creators cannot be done without conflict by someone holding the title of "YouTube's Creator Liaison". We know this because there exists not a single YouTube Creator who thinks removing dislikes is a good idea -- for YouTube or for Creators.

Why would YouTube make this universally disliked change? There is a reason, but it's not a good one, and not one that will be publicly disclosed. Instead, there will be references to various studies. Studies that apparently contradict the common sense of every YouTuber.

The ability to easily and quickly identify bad content is an essential feature of a user-generated content platform. Why? Because not all user-generated content is good. It can't be. In fact, most of it is not good. And that's OK. The idea was never that all content is good. The idea WAS, however, that among the flood of content, there are great creations waiting to be exposed. And for that to happen, the stuff that's not great has to fall by the side as quickly as possible.

The process works, and there's a name for it: the wisdom of the crowds. The process breaks when the platform interferes with it. Then, the platform invariably declines. Does YouTube want to become a place where everything is mediocre? Because nothing can be great if nothing is bad.

In business, there's only one thing more important than "Make it better". And that's "Don't fuck it up".

Chrome/Firefox/Usersript extension to return youtube dislike count
I haven't personally used it, found on HackerNews a few days ago.
Some comments from the thread seem to indicate that the API is still there, so the count is just hidden. However, the API will be adjusted next month so only the account associated with it will be able to see it. So the extension will work until Dec 13th.
