I'm sure Andrew Johnson would disavow degenerate people like you.

Did you know Vice President Andrew Johnson drank 3 neat glasses of whiskey before taking the Oath of Office. Lincoln who was away in the Capitol signing legislation came in the Old Senate Chamber to watch his political bride of convivence; disgrace himself with a long rambling incoherent inaugural address. Which someone managed to keep out of the public record.

I mean, you did pick him as your running mate Abe.
Only because Benjamin Butler turned the VP position down. The lesson here is never turn down being VP. This isn't even the only time a high profile political figure turned down being VP because they thought it was an insult only to watch as the president who offered it to them died in office. Same thing happened to Henry Clay who was offered the position by William Henry Harrison. Because of that, John Tyler, who is also generally considered to be one of America's worst presidents, got to rule the country.

Because Butler said no, and Johnson had always been a pro-Unionist despite being a Senator from Tennessee, who before Tennessee seceded gave pro-Union speeches around his state not giving a fuck that it made him a target for getting mobbed and lynched

Ben Butler couldn't even manage the city of New Orleans without it all but breaking out in open revolt because of his heavy-handedness. Can you imagine what he would have done with the entire South?

Good or bad, Andrew Johnson certainly was unique. He was most notably the only southern senator to remain loyal to the Union and the first president to be impeached.

Some good information:

Andrew Johnson was incompetent and ineffectual.

Abe really should have just stuck with Hannibal Hamlin. He was fine, all his potential replacements had more liabilities than him. But Abe wanted to shore up support in the Upper South by picking a Southerner. This was completely unnecessary and is a classic example of overcomplicating and overthinking things. I'm not sure why Abe didn't like Hamlin. My read of him is that he was boring but capable.
