Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

Now to be honest with Brave, I think it still has a lot more to be desired. It's a good browser for those that want to get started with protecting their privacy but since they still depend on Google for things such as plug-ins (I think you can only get plug-ins for Brave from the Chrome Web Store) and I'm not really too crazy about the cryptocurrency that they use (BAT) since to me there are far better cryptocurrencies out there and I also wish that Brave was as customizable as Mozilla Firefox as well.

Still though, I would still recommend Brave for those that aren't too comfortable and feel intimidated by privacy-oriented tools. Its a good browser for those that don't know anything about cybersecurity and to get anyone started in protecting their privacy and personal information so there you have it.
Just installed and set it up, seems nice so far. I don't do anything particularly special with my browser so I don't really need much in terms of customization and it seems to block ads by default which I like quite a bit. Perhaps if I get a bit more into this I'll fuck around with Firefox. When I was younger and more interested in such things, I did use Tor for awhile mostly just to check out the spooky mysterious dark webs but then I got bored and stopped.

Anyway I feel this might be a bit off-topic so fuck this guy and his shitty porn beliefs. I do think it is harmful to many personally but this shit is unreasonable.

Well if we're going to talk about this again, yes Andrew Torba is an idiot. Though this is to be expected from dumb and incompetent boomers though.

And he's very delusional. I don't see myself or even most people on the Internet to use his shit anyway.

If I'm going to use anything to protect my privacy and personal information then I'll probably use anything that has been proven to work and if I'm going to use any alternative social media websites then I'll probably use anything that also isn't run by moronic boomers that are stuck in the 1950's and think that vaccines cause autism and are probably involved in bizarre doomsday cults too.

Now with that said, I don't really see Gab succeeding anyway. No one aside from Neo-Nazis and religious fundamentalists use it anyway and I doubt that it's ever going to take off into mainstream success due it being a total cesspool of moronic speds from the far-right and it's run by a fat stupid boomer that really has bad optics in a lot of things and even people who are actual free speech advocates just see it as a hugbox for those that only subscribe to the really extreme ideas of the far-right. Any normal person will just look at Andrew Torba and Gab as a complete joke anyway.

Has anyone got the picture of torba talking about how his electrical fire being proof of microsoft trying to kill him?

So how actually is the Gab Dissenter browser? Worth looking into?
It's not a bad browser, just Brave without the crypto and repurposes the now defunct Dissenter extension into a core feature, but it's also worth noting that they are slow to release security updates, so unless you're one of the like 15 people on Earth who actually use Dissenter just use Brave for desktop, Fennec or Firefox for mobile.

It's dead lmao Alex quit cause they started curbing his ideas. He started talking about Pleroma as a backup a few days back and today they officially parted ways.

Welp my hope is gone again. It was fun to follow briefly, anyway.

In light of the Coronavirus Pandemic, Torba is planning on launching a Zoom Alternative since it has ties to the Chinese Government:

EDIT:
It's called Gab Gathering.

I heard this and have no idea what Zoom is.
Zoom is a teleconference application. Mainly used now for businesses and schools to have lectures, presentations, meetings now that social distancing is a thing.

Yeah, I'm sure the average person or business will flock to a new service hosted by the same dude whose social media alternative is chock full of racists, bigots, and overall degenerates. I bet it'd also launch with a slew of bugs on release.

While Zoom is shit, this doesn't mean that people are going to use your shit either Andrew Torba.

If I'm going to use any teleconference application, I'm probably going to use something such as Jitsi (which is also used by Edward Snowden and even the Tor project recommends it too) because these other more reliable teleconference applications that are actually proven to work despite their flaws.

So yeah, no one is going to use Gab Gather or whatever crap Andrew Torba puts out there.

It''s just pathetic to watch this big tub of lard keep wasting time and money on things that no one is going to use anyway.

I tend to assume that this will just be a shitty skin on top of Jitsi, possibly with some extra security flaws from 'added features', and that they will never ever update from upstream to get fixes made in the base Jitsi code. If not that, they'll fork something worse and put Gab scabs on top of it.

I believe Jitsi defaults to using P2P for communications, so in theory it might be possible to join public meetings and determine user IPs for whatever reason you might have to do that. I doubt Torba will want to pay for forwarding the video traffic so pretty safe to assume that will happen no matter what platform he chooses to go with. It also won't be explained to their boomer users, at least not in any way they can comprehend. Scratch that, >2 people in a conversation and you need the 'Jitsi Voice Bridge' running to forward audio and video. This may mitigate against Gab adopting Jitsi unless they make some hack to add multi-person P2P video calls.

Gab's security record includes:
  1. Creating a private message feature where you can edit and delete the comments of other parties to the conversation
  2. Allowing users to add Javascript and autoplaying audio in the 'Dissenter' 'live chat' which loads in the background when you went to the 'comments page' for a URL, so you could rickroll people going to popular stories on the Dissenter site
  3. Giving information to the FBI without even a sniff of a warrant

Torba just launched a new layout for Gab:
It's pretty good as far as UI goes, threading is better too. I had the chance to demo it before launch.

But, Gab being Gab, it came out still unfinished. Broken af. It's far slower than before, I'm getting their posts on Mastodon up to a minute before they show up locally. A lot more resource intensive than their previous FE... up to 20 times moreso, in fact. Previously, you had 1 http request per 20 posts, now it's that, plus an extra one for each individual post. They're already spamming new servers just to keep it working. If you actually use Gab (you shouldn't, there are better options) expect the site to go down periodically.

If that is the case then I don't really know how Andrew Torba will expect his shitty website to ever take off.

The average person doesn't care how something works, they just want it to work. Gab is a failure at this point.

Gab will never be the alternative that takes off, but they are a good introduction to other alternatives thanks to ActivityPub compatibility. Mostly harmless in the grand scheme, aside from all the money they suck out of gullible old people.

The standard for content on Gab is somehow worse than Twitter. It's just insane far-right ranting for the most part.
