I'll stand up for frogsite on this one. Gab may be cringe and has some annoying rules, but when the site runs it's actually a pretty good experience once you find a clique of cool people. The web design, I'd say, is probably the best around right now, better than mainstream sites even. No wasted space, lots of discovery mechanisms. My only complaint is there's no good way to hide the shilling on the side bar.

If Pleroma didn't exist it would probably be the only place I posted. Leagues better than that trash heap site Parler that's been catching on more recently. They make Gab look professional. Unfortunately the site and it's CEO keep reserved enough that it's probably not worth a thread on.

I don't believe for a second that Dorbo doesn't want all the celebrities on his site haha! Though, as someone who's only used alt microbloggers for about 2 years, I gotta say it is pretty nice. I don't know that I could ever go back to Twitter even if they pinky promised not to ban.

Somebody should tell him that if a big influencer dont come into your platform, your platform would die sooner later.
Since if a big influencer leave a platform and go to another one, his fans would come there and
Heck, the popularty of gab depends on those influencers, for example Alex Jones whom got banned on everysingle other platforms came on to gab and a chunk of his fans came on to gab;
Or ludemedia who's a big anti-CCP Chinese influencer came on to gab to leak those banned info about Hunter Biden and because of that, now a good chunk of gab users are anti-CCP chinese (same with mulan2020 on gab and parler); or Stonetoss,etc etc.
The life of gab depends on these influencers.

Gab TV was supposed to be released "Later today" about a week ago. I've been doing daily polls on Gab on whether or not it's coming every day since is the day, the results lean more negative every time lol.

Rob Colbert, the former CTO, is still the guy in charge of the video platform, and he fucking suuuuucks so no telling when it drops. At this point, taking a Gab dev's word on time frame is like trusting a kid with crumbs on his face to tell you who really stole the cookies.

Meanwhile, the new CTO, Fosco Maratto, noticed the main site was choking, got up early to fix it, and posted when the issue was resolved, at about 6 AM Eastern. It's insane that someone this competent is working at Gab, they've never had a CTO that just keeps things working like this! Wish he was in charge of all the projects.

Just one day after releasing Gab TV, Gab pushed an update that broke... well, basically everything else. A lot of new features (none of them finished) and most of the existing ones have been comprimised in some way. Including the ability to log into any of their side projects except the TV.

Gab has this strange process, where they don't bother actually testing new builds on the dev server (which they do have at develop.gab.com.) Instead they just yell "Fuck it!" push whatever they want, sort the bug reports out and fix it later.

It's annoying at the best of times. However, after a whole day of broken Gab, Dorbo gave a special, exceptional announcement.

So, they're leaving the site in this crippled state for the rest of the month I guess! LOL

To be clear, I hate to be an asshole, Obviously dev work is easier said than done, and they deserve the Christmas off. But why, why in any scenario, would they have pushed the update if they had no plans to maintain it? That's the kind of thing that always cripples this site! The work of the devs don't matter if they're directed poorly. It really sucks, because it's actually been good lately.

On the good side, there are some major fixes, so, once everything gets patched up in a few weeks, Gab will be better for it.
