Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

I think Parlor's going to feast when it comes back up. Torba must have been waiting for this moment, cultivating his own servers and all this other shit and the site is absolutely broken. Shit takes forever to load and most of the features like search are completely broken.

They had years to get this together and it's just a complete shitshow.

This is a solid prediction. Torba has structured gab to appeal to boomers, retards, and boomer retards. His ideal audience is one that is tech illiterate (so they won't call him out on his obvious bullshit when asked to explain the site's lack of functionality), gullible, and willing to part with their disposable income. He is no doubt experiencing a massive influx of such people given the Purge now ongoing. Already he was able to survive prior to this thanks to the fiscal generosity of a few boomer whales that he rewarded with semi-admin privileges and blue checkmarks. Now he's potentially set for life . . . until they yank his domain name. At which point he'll no doubt find another grift.

Truly, a magnificent pigroach specimen.
Probably learned from FreeRepublic

Seriously that site that looks like it was coded in Notepad apparently takes like half a million a year to operate? Who the hell would believe that except boomers.

Gab is getting 100000 new users every hour thanks to big techs FAIL and the genius of young visionary andrew torba. @Null on suicide watch!
who knew gab would be the big winner from this? If banks get regulated and can’t deny access to payment networks torba is going to be a very rich man.

I was honestly surprised to learn (~3 days ago) that Gab was still around. I was an early adopter back when it first launched, kinda tuned out because I wanted to talk about things other than how the holocaust didn't happen (and they totally deserved it) and read about most of it's subsequent travails on this very site; I assumed they'd quietly shut their doors a while ago. The fact that they're still up and running despite everything is baffling to me.

It's too early to call this, but Torba may be on track to being the DSP of alt-tech: objectively terrible at everything he does, yet winding up as the last man standing through sheer pigheadedness. Stranger things have happened.
Gab is milling around in the same purgatory all those tumblr clones that got made during the porn purge are where it's too insignificant to truly keep running, but there's still a large enough userbase for it to stay alive.

Gab has this infinite cycle of:
1. Fork open source software
2. Add no new features and irreversibly fuck it up while adding nothing to it but their logo
3. Shill it on twitter saying how the mainstream alternative is shit because it can't handle free speech and they will never be as based and have the freedoms that Gab does.
4. Never merge upstream.
5. Shut it down 12 months later

Torba really charging people for basic YouTube functions like uploading

P.S: Can we get a thread for parler
The people who run that platform are EVEN MORE FUCKING RETARDED Than Torba,
imagine running a "free speech" platform with AWS and wanting a real phone number of people (and also they want your driving license if you wanted to get verified THEY USE A FREE verification system for that btw, SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD NEVER DO)

they all did not remove the metadata from photos and videos of the parler users, which can get someone doxxed after capital hill riots ,And the delete button is FAKE
Thanks parler

It might have already. There were rumors that the site had a huge data breach, but I couldn't be bothered to check if it was real or fake.

Isn't the "fully funded by people like you" part a blatant lie? I thought he had angel investors/venture capitalists give him fat chunks of cash.

idk, its loading way better now.
But Gab is in pretty serious shit rn
Gab received 1 btc ($40,000) from an hero frenchman and is under fbi investigation
over 22 people/organizations received 28.15 btc or $500,000 (on December 8th, 2020)

Full thread if you want more detail/info: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/gunt-...tcoin-0-5-btc-fbi-investigating-him-co.83328/

Gab was part of the transaction of 28.15 currently worth $1.1 million from Laurent Bachelier, a self proclaimed time traveling nazi and MLP fan, who killed himself over wooden doors and building 7. He had a pretty serious and rare medical condition "trigeminal neuralgia".

WASHINGTON — On Dec. 8, someone made a simultaneous transfer of 28.15 bitcoins — worth more than $500,000 at the time — to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to prominent right-wing organizations and personalities.

FBI considered gab and the 21 other right wing ecelebs/organizations part of an international terrorist network, and is currently investigating them in connection to the 1/6/21 storm of the capitol, and that they are domestic terrorist organization:
According to one source familiar with the matter, the suspicious Dec. 8 transaction, along with a number of other pieces of intelligence, has prompted law enforcement and intelligence agencies in recent days to actively investigate the sources of funding for the individuals who participated in the Capitol insurrection, as well as their networks. The government is hoping to prevent future attacks but also to uncover potential foreign involvement in or support of right-wing activities, the source said.

During a press conference on Tuesday on the investigation into the Capitol riot, acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin said the “scope and scale of this investigation in these cases are really unprecedented.” At this time, Sherwin added, prosecutors are treating the matter as a “significant counterterrorism or counterintelligence investigation” involving deeper dives into “money, travel records, disposition, movement, communication records.”

former FBI's comments on the data:
“I’d be stunned if both nation-state adversaries and terrorist organizations weren’t figuring out how to funnel money to these guys,” one former FBI official who reviewed the data for Yahoo News said. “Many of them use fundraising sites (often in Bitcoin) that are virtually unmonitored and unmonitorable. If they weren’t doing it, they’d be incompetent.”

Gab got 1 btc from him
"international networks"
While we won’t share the donor’s identity publicly, we’ll walk you through how we made the identification and provide details on the donations below. The information we’ve uncovered shows that domestic extremism isn’t strictly domestic. International networks play a role as well, which we see reflected in the nationality of this extremist donor. The donation, as well as reports of the planning that went into the Capitol raid on alt-right communication channels, also suggests that domestic extremist groups may be better organized and funded than previously thought.

Parler is going to sell user data probably, that's going to be their business plan. Doubt it's a glow in the dark operation or it would still be up.
It doesn't need to be if they're so incompetent random hackers get your shit and post it all in public. And if the feds want it they'll just seize the whole thing.

They have annual "freepathons" to grift for money for a text-only site that looks like it's on geocities. It's ludicrous how much they raise and how gullible freepers are. I doubt there's anyone under the age of 60 on that shithole.

Idk about odysee.com all that much tho (its kinda a Successor to LBRY)
I wouldn't call it a successor, if anything, it's like LBRY's centralized counterpart. LBRY still exists but for decentralized purposes.
Rumble literally came out of no where and suddenly became popular just like parler
I don't get it either, there exists less suspicious alternatives with better looking UI and only requires an Email at most.
