Android Hate Thread

confirmed my point thanks for the info
Check on the supported device list for Lineage OS, and if you're not capable of flashing a phone, get one of your kids to do it. I have had good experiences by finding a new mid-range or older top end device that is officially supported. I'm still using a 2015 mid-range phone with Lineage, since the day I got it. I used an application that limits charging parameters (AccA) and it's still lasting a full day.

All "android sucks" complains always turn out to be from people who bought the shittiest cheapest chinese phones with a bootleg android ROM, then compare it to a $1000 iphone, not even a $400 iphone which has a sub-FHD screen in fucking 2023...

thanks for the suggestion but my samsung A12 is not supported

You can if you sideload and boot up your computer every once in a week to refresh the sideloading
Isn't the number of apps you can sideload at once limited to 10 or something?

Anyway, my hate is mostly on the hardware level. Chink shit, ARM shit and ARM Chinkshit have horrifying levels of binary blobs for drivers. Bootloaders locked down to shit with no hope of this changing anytime soon. Android makes this even more of a nightmare, though there is a silver lining that is the Generic Kernel Image Project. The entire ecosystem is oppressive unless you root your phone and then you can get fucked by malware much easier because, on most Android phones, you cannot relock your bootloader (only Pixels using DivestOS are a viable option).

Android is pozzed and the default user experience is highly dependent on underlying hardware, but anyone with moderate technical nous and some patience can make all but the shittiest of the shit-tier low end phones into something half-decent.

You just need to do your research before buying a phone i.e. find out how many custom ROMs there are for your preferred phone and then prepare to spend a few hours backing up the factory ROM, flashing the new ROM and sideloading your preferred apps. XDA is your friend here, and any half-decent phone will have spurred at least one slav or pajeet into making a custom ROM for it. (Hint: the more custom ROMs available, the better the phone).

Of course this is much easier if you just go with LineageOS and its matching GApps package, but then there's the risk of re-pozzing the phone if too much Google shit is added back into the OS. It's the quickest option out there assuming your phone is supported, but it'll still take an hour or to get it up and running.

That being said, OP seems like he'd struggle to operate a Nokia 3310 without fucking it up, so I don't think the world of custom ROMs is for him.

Agree. Anybody with half a brain can figure out how to make Android more functional. The really nice thing about Android is if you optimize it properly, you can play PS2 games on like a Snapdragon 845 at close to full speed at native res. The newer stuff will do 720p emulation easy

ios is the lego duplo of phone os's, seeth and cope. also people who say samsung is the best have no brains.

stop being an arse, go suck cook's dick elsewhere.

android is shit but its a masterpiece compared to babys first phone os.

I dislike Android for a couple reasons:
1. Even unlocked, your device will come booted with a bunch of apps and tracking nonsense from your cell provider. I remember having to root my previous Android phone to completely remove all of that shit.
2. Security vulnerabilities. I'm not saying this in the sense of normies side-loading apps, rather seeing small chink phone manufacturers develop their own phone brands. They can be littered in security vulnerabilities due to team size, country dictatorship, etc. For that reason I think Trump made a very good call putting all sorts of tariffs on China for their brands like Huawei.
3. I simply think companies like Samsung make really shitty UI design choices for their phones. Like sure you can skin it, but it's still OneUI.
4. If it weren't for YouTube or my email, I would be practically out of using Google services. Getting an Android phone would defeat that purpose.
5. All of these major smartphone brands are trying to copy Apple's walled garden ecosystem to get you to buy more things with their brand logo. The issue here is all of them compared to Apple's. Look how liberating and free I am wearing my Samsung Watch, controlling my Samsung TV with Bixby!

I will say, the only main gripe I have with android is transferring files via USB C drives. So many fucking menus...

Otherwise aside from one stint with a Nokia windows phone, I've been a Android guy my whole life. It works pretty well if you go for midrange options and don't go for the most Walmart 5 dollar DVD bin option for your phone. It makes calls, texts, browses the web, and even though I rarely play mobile games, my A51 is more than capable of handling them
