@Android Raptor Hate Thread

In the good old times people only had basic design sheets they had to share with their brothers and sisters and they were happier and tougher than everybody in 2023.
Yeah, but in the good old times people could easily arrange 'accidents' for themselves if they got tired of living, and untreated mentally ill people were too disturbed/disturbing to marry and produce mentally ill children. Now everyone swallows pills and pointing out that having children when you're a genetic ticking time bomb is ableist.

Mate, mentally ill people have always been around. You actually go into the history of the treatment of the mentally ill and it's clear that it's always been a pervasive problem one way or another. I read a lot of historical true crime, and the amount of people who were clearly ill or had what we'd now classify as personality disorders is stark. This shit's been crawling through my family for at least the last four generations, and given discussions that my father had with my great grandfather, it's seems like it's been going on for a lot longer than that.

People have always struggled. The difference now is that there is no way out if they get sick of it.

Personally I'm ok with the fact that its less common now for us crazy people to be shipped off to asylums and left to rot or get lobotomized or worse. It's far from perfect but I'll take it over the shit that was going on not even 100 years ago.

A lot of people romanticize the past because serious issues were a lot more taboo to talk about openly and because people with mental illness and disabilities were shipped away from "polite society". They think it means those things didn't happen back then, which is of course horseshit if you know anything about what actually happened back when.

Reversing that was fucking disastrous for society and normalized illness and psychosis.
Most people have issues of a kind or another, you either wrangle yours under control somehow or you should be ostracized for sure, not for existing, but for the normalization process, if you engage in it

We get it, you don't like seeing icky disabled and crazy people existing near you.

Asylums have the bad reputation they do for a reason. Abuse and neglect waa rampant, and is still a problem in facilities that exist today. People with intellectual disabilities who used to live in asylums actually score better on IQ tests after getting out than they did when they were locked up. There were good reasons to get rid of asulums, the problem is the community based resources that were supposed to replace them never materialized for the most part (and what little did is constantly being chipped away at, especially in conservative areas).

Protecting society comes above the needs of minorities.
Sorry.
Also, I work in a hospital, so your accusation is void. I tended to more fucked up people than you can imagine, but that's my own choice.
I am not gonna push that onto the population.
Society as a whole should only normalize people symbolizing idealistic values, like athletes, mathematicians, pilots and so on.

We protect them, never normalize them, dear.
Ain't nobody gonna genocide the queer cripples on MY WATCH
Now, please, towards the asylum, in an orderly line. Nice ladies in white gowns await.
No thanks.

My mom actually almost had me committed to a longterm psych facility as a teen. Not sure what she would've done if she was successful since it would've gotten rid of her scapegoat. Narcissists need a scapegoat.

You don't seem mentally ill enough to warrant internment. I wonder how that carries in RL, although if you probably met me you'd try to claw my eyes out for my wrong thoughts.
Oh well

Narc mom just didn't like caring for kids, especially one that didn't take her shit. She ended up dumping us on our dads doorstep while he was at work. Fun times.

Now you understand why we need to ostracize and shame these behaviors?
Narcisstic parents have never been shamed or ostracized, let alone put in asylums.

Shit for most of human history kids were just seen as the property of their parents, who could treat them however they want. That's still the prevailing mentality in a lot of places.
