Angry Joe / Joe Vargas / Jose Antonio Vargas / AngryJoeShow - Streamer, formerly made ANGRY REVIEWS, hates his fans

Angry Joe is more nu-Angry than actually angry. Even his anger makes him sound like he’s being more so passive than actually being honest about what he wants to really review. It’s kind of like Quinton Reviews, but without the Garfield and pity party fetish.
I think you can go far saying Joe’s anger is playacting at masculinity and righteousness.

you're overthinking it.
i think its a combination of age, burnout and apathy.
back in the day when he wasn't a big name, he had to work harder to garner an audience and thus he put more work and passion into his project.
so he was more angry in his videos. once he got big enough and did his videos for long enough, he became less angry over time.
this happens to basically every angry game reviewer.
look at AVGN, Nostalgia Critic, Irate Gamer. even DSP tried his hand at it at one point.
they all exhibit the exact same behavior, just becoming less angry over time.
you can see it happen in real time in this video
also this AVGN video was one of the angryest segments he's ever had.
nothing like it today.

I can't believe I made this thread like five years ago, holy shit.

Needless to say, I feel the same way as all of you seem to. That Joe has only gotten WORSE with time. I unsubscribed ages ago following a situation in which he tried to claim that Nintendo was trying to seize the money that streamers were making on reactions to their videos, but I have occassionally checked back on his channel to see what his takes on specific news are.

Things I have noticed:

1.

Angry Joe does not play games.

On the rare occassion I watch an Angry Joe video, I'm often taken aback by how little he seems to now about the gaming industry outside of the content he covers. The example I always put to is that weekly news video he made, in which he talked about Sora coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Joe expresss his congratulations to people who really wanted him in the game, but states that he personally would have rather have had Sephiroth in the game. Alex had to inform him that Sephiroth was already in the game.

2.

Game Of Thrones was replaced by non stop Capeshit discussions

Back when Game of Thrones was still airing Joe wouldn't shut the fuck up about one of his 'favorite' shows, but now the obsession seems to have drifted into every adaption of every superhero you can think of. The guy is doing regular reviews of what seems to be every Marvel and DC live action adaption, with no signs of stopping or slowing down.

3.

The Weird Shilling For Bad Products

Angry Joe liked the Monster Hunter movie. Fuck him.

4. The weird tendency to ignore or downplay Nintendo

I find it strange how Joe will do live reactions to most major conferences and announcements, but somehow fails to even acknowledge Nintendo's existence on the channel. Alex even suggested that Nintendo 'paid' for Metroid Dread to win a Game Award, which makes me think there's kind of behind the scenes bias there.

5. Retreading Old Ground

It really does feel like he makes the same videos year after year. Like, do we really need massive video rants about how Madden is bad or reviews where he says that microtransactions suck?

Currently, I'd say right now that all eyes are on Cinemassacre when it comes to the next big gaming e-celebrity downfall, but I don't think Joe is far behind. At this rate, I'd say that when the Superhero fad ends, he's going to be fucked.

KOF12 was the first AJ episode I watched back then. didn't follow the guy and his friends at all, till I found his back4blood review. thought it was solid, same with Dying Light 2 review. (he said it's better than first Dying Light though so I'm confused about his standing with the game)

Joe never stood out to me, unlike old AVGN and NC. the show always looked like yet another angry review channel with a guy role-playing with angry persona. most of time they're not expressing genuine opinions on games.

“The Professional Roast of Angry Joe” has become my own, self favorite fan fic I have ever written.

It’s so scathing how LordKat ended up projecting his anger at Spoony onto Joe for “endorsing” Spoony’s behavior at E3

It made for simple, but brilliant writing.

Off topic but they did not get in trouble over Spoony doing that stuff, Spoony was still allowed at that convention a year or a bit more later

On Topic what are the odds Joe was a Bores/Lewis type when he became a reviewer (ie was not involved or not much involved in the hobby he decided to make reviews on)?

That bit always confused me, there's not shortage of weirdos being loud at a convention, even back then. I can't imagine the reason people didn't like those people was because of Spoony being a tard, unless he was doing something far more retarded behind the scenes. I'm guessing they either found something they didn't like about LordKat or something he was associated with like Channel Awesome.

Joe's momentum and enthusiasm seemed to hit a wall after Jeff shut him down at the Game Awards that one year. Joe was ready to do this ambush interview bullshit and Jeff was fucking prepared for it. Joe wasn't ready for anyone slapping him back like that, and he realized that flying by the seat of his pants while trying to come off as professional wasn't cutting it.

He backed down from a lot of interviews and stuff after that. Falling into his little niche with his friends. Which he's grown complacent in.

What ambush interview and why?

Lordkat just wanted to be able to point to something external for his failure to 'make it big' in the industry and plenty of people took that and accepted that the "betrayal" thing actually mattered.

I think LK came around to realizing it was pointless later on and, from what I remember, left that stuff behind and got a normie job and life

I remember seeing something about how Joe's first console was the 360 so that sounds about right. It wasn't even like Moviebob leaving the hobby for ten years and coming back, trying to act like he'd never left and was the ultimate expert, he was a newbie who had only been gaming for a year or two and thought he was able to play with the big boys.

Also, Lewis had been reading comics for years before he started At4W, he just borrowed them off his brother and then started reading his own later.

I'm not even close to an expert. But my first console was an Atari 2600 because my parents had one.

We didn't get another until the N64. I had occasionally played the Genesis and Super Nintendo with friends.
After the PS2, I got my own income and got every console I wanted since then.

With that said. There is value in different perspectives of people with different histories. We don't need people to have been obsessed with gaming since the Magnavox Odyssey. BUT your view loses a lot of ground when you're lazy about understanding things and don't do any research. I mean, Bob is a great example of someone who should know more but proves to be dumb each video.
