I heard they made a new manga of Akazukin Chacha years ago which has them going into the real world like a reverse isekai. Anyone got more info on that?

An I still feel it’s a shame they never gave it a release in the States and the only English dub is from Cartoon Network Asia

How do they do a 1990s shoujo anime-themed café and not have a menu item with orange peel jam based around Marmalade Boy? Sweet yet bitter marmalade.
I've heard that aside from a few outliers, most anime-themed cafés don't really put too much effort in trying to match the series there promoting with the most you can expect from them is latte art and plastic figures in the food of a few characters, posters/cardboard cuttings scattered around the room, and some small merch like buttons, stickers, etc. you can buy. But this is all second hand info so I might be wrong,

I've been watching Hunter X Hunter after seeing praise for it everywhere and man, I really don't know why it's so highly regarded. Most of the show is pretty good but the chimera ant arc is killing it for me (I've got maybe 15 episodes left to watch?).

The arc might be one of the worst pieces of anime I have ever watched. It tries to tackle some interesting concepts and ideas but it's handled extremely badly in my opinion. The set up, characters and execution are all sub par. I read before that this arc was a highlight of the series. Honestly can't understand how anyone could see this as a good piece of storytelling.

Kind of bummed out, the rest of the show was alright. A lot of typical cringe anime bullshit which I can look past but the ants killed it for me.

It's funny you mention that arc. My sister loves that show and mentioned how that scene freaked out my nephew. Is this the newer series or the original one? I need to watch it. She really hates the lecherous/pervy character, whomever that may be.

This is precisely why I don’t really like the JJK manga despite thinking the anime was pretty decent. The power system’s mechanics REALLY isn’t that deep, for the most part it’s an “anything goes” power system that makes about as much sense as Jojo stands, so when the author drops a fucking 2 page lecture in the middle of a chapter I can only roll my eyes. I hope the anime continues to gloss over these parts.

After more than two decades, the legendarily unlicensed-in-English "comfy" post-apocalypse manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou/Yokohama Shopping Log by Hitoshi Ashinano, about an android girl who runs a café on the outskirts of what used to be Yokohama before some never-really-specified cataclysm changed the landscape, sunk huge portions of coastal Japan, and severely reduced the human population, is getting an official English-language translation from Seven Seas.

This is a manga that I remember hearing rumors about how it was on the verge of being licensed by Studio Proteus/Dark Horse Comics twenty years ago (but it never happened).

Its the 2011 series, I think that's the 'new' one? There are other series out there which I won't be touching at this point given how terrible this one is.

There is a lot of very weird pedo shit pepper in the series which I chalked up to Japanese weirdness but the one you are talking about I think is a character called Hisoka. The main antagonist in the beginning of the series and a straight up pedo lusting after the 12 year old MC.

Well, finally. This was worth checking out when I first saw it a decade back. Learned about it from the sadly missed Grumpy Ji-san in one of his review vids as he visits a specific part of the country.

Yeah I don’t get it either people go absolutely crazy for Hunter X Hunter, it’s like the second highest rated anime ever behind FMA brotherhood, I haven’t seen it personally yet I hear it’s like a God amongst anime, if it has such shitty at a like you described why has it been hyped to the level it has? Sheer blind fanboyism or is just a slip in an otherwise really good anime?

There’s also the little girl who’s not really a little girl lusting after him

Personally, I'm gonna be starting the 1999 version of Hunter x Hunter whenever I get around to it. It just looks cleaner in terms of animation, though the second OP is like godtier and the actual series itself might not look as good.

I wouldn't say its a slip, the whole anime is 140 or so episodes and this arc is the last 60-70 episodes. I was thinking about it and I think a lot of it is to do with age (you can call it fanboyism from people that haven't grown out of it yet). I can easily see a young kid or teen who has only ever seen western cartoons watching this for the first time and being blown away. Anime does tend to be a lot more edgy and young boys eat that shit up. The timeline makes sense too, its what 2011? Probably the first anime a lot of zoomers ever experienced. I have fond memories of stuff like Naruto, One Piece and Bleach (and they are all held in high regard still) but in all honesty if I had to sit down and watch them now I'd probably fucking neck myself.

To its credit, I can see the themes its trying to explore and again if you are younger and its the first time you see this king of thing in media you'd think its really deep and complex. Its not and in my opinion the executions is poor to boot.

If you like shounen stuff you will like HxH, its very well made, the animation is good and it hits the main beats you'd like in a shounen. I personally don't see how its rated so highly, its "good" at best. People seem to really like the ant arc, I think its an embarrassing mess but maybe I'm setting the bar too high. Give it a watch if you have nothing better to do I guess?

TLDR: I'm a fucking idiot for expecting something better out of a shounen.

HxH is not even in the same league as FMA and anyone who says otherwise needs to get their fucking head examined.

Never go on any of the HxH threads on /a/.
Most of it is copy pasta but I'm convinced there's a small portion that believes the "soft-seinen" gibberish.

Halfway through Legend of the Galactic Heroes, it really is kino as promised, extremely smart, and a lot of its points are extremely true even today (pretty fitting considering one of the themes is how humanity hasn't changed even after millenias).

I don't remember where I heard it, but people said there are dozens of characters to keep track over in the anime, but really the cast is about 7 important characters in the two sides (with plenty of side characters).

The only gripe I have is that the Alliance is autistically retarded, while the Empire is incredibly proficent. Even if the point is that "what's better, the worse democracy or the best autocracy?", each system of goverment has its pros and cons regardless of the people on top. An autocracy might have the ability to enact changes rapidly, but once someone who isn't fit is put into a job, things can go bad without an easy fix. While a democracy has easier time changing leadership and adapting to changes on multiple levels.

Its top tier stuff, not just as an anime but compared to any piece of media.

It doesn't beat you over the head with anything or treat the viewer like an idiot. With the political stuff especially, you are presented with two different sides and really it's up to the viewer to draw their own conclusions. I honestly can't imagine any western show or film doing something like that in this day and age and treating the viewer with respect.
