She should have held an everstone so the cancer wouldn't evolve...

Rest in peace

As a fan of Water Pokemon the voice of Misty holds a special place in my heart... Nostalgia wise

Also Rachel got her start as a VA being cast as Utena when she was about 19. She was a very lucky young woman.
A tragic coincidence is that the Japanese voice actress for Utena Tenjou, Tomoko Kawakami, also died of cancer (in her case, ovarian cancer) in 2011 at an even younger age (only 41).

RIP to them both.

It's literally an animated adaptation of compiled 3 panel gag comics, I think that the pacing pretty much fits that format. the longer stuff in it is original material usually.
Meanwhile Azumanga was adapted from a 4-panel gag comic and it wasn't all spastic shit. I suppose it all comes down to the director.
Scotty always had the best advice on loving a shipfu.
Ahh yes, "I've giv'n her all she's got captain, an' I canna give her no more."

Rip to an absolute legend. I hope she died happy knowing how big of a part she played in countless people's childhoods.

According to voice actress Tara Sands, Rachel Lillis was born July 8th, 1969 and not 1978 as many sources claimed (and Rachel Lillis's Wikipedia article has been updated with the 1969 birthdate) so, assuming this is true, Lillis would've been 28 turning 29 when she first voiced Utena. (The first volume on VHS came out roughly September 1998 if I remember correctly. I got the subtitled version but I think the English dubbed VHS version got released simultaneously with the sub. The DVD of the first 13 episodes was released the following summer.)

55 is still too young to die, though.

This is a joke, right? Makes sense the more I read, right? It's only Mature because of aliens and not because of "LOLZ did you and teach have TEH SECKS yet???" stuff?

I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.

Speaking of DDD-it reminded me of something.
I just wanted to give a mini-rant as I doomscrolled a little too much recently on Youtube with videos about Goodnight Punpun.
... As much as I hate this fucking term, I really do hate the lack of """"media literacy"""" in the majority of people who consume good media now.

I thought Goodnight Punpun was a good parable about how depression/generational trauma can cause one to reject any possible chances life gives them and make you the thing your fucked up mind says you are if you don't actively try your damndest to get out of your head. A beautiful story about how life doesn't have many actual villains, just mostly fucked up people who try their best with what they've got.

But apparently for most people, Punpun is just a terrible person with no redeeming qualities who had no excuse or reasoning for why he ended up going into a downward spiral. There's not hundreds of pages showing in excruciating detail how he ended up the way he was. He's just satan and relating to any of his struggles is just a red flag and there's no such thing as moral ambiguity.

I shouldn't give a shit, but it does piss me off that a majority of good works now have been co-opted by the modern reddit audience who don't even read or watch the shit they critique. I just hate this modern borderline maoist "pre-approved" analysis modern western audiences have that seeps into everything.
I'm not saying you have to like every character ever or enjoy every story but just the complete revisionism modern audiences have towards anything sacred or requiring some level of experience/wisdom to appreciate just grinds my gears.
Shinji can't be a kid so psychologically fucked by factors outside his control that he makes awful decisions which reinforce his negative selfview. No, he's just a whiney bitch who should hate himself more.
Anyone short of a christ-like isekai self-insert is just a piece of shit for no reason. Any story that tackles heavy themes isn't something that people use as something relatable to take heed from. It's just something that gives me the "sads" too much.
I don't know if people are just really retarded when processing any narrative or thematic information or if there's an actual war going on against honesty and reality because it's too grim for zoomers who can't understand that life has more depth than they want to believe.
Oh wait, the answer is yes.

Watched the Spy X Family film yesterday. It's really good, even preferable to the series in its pacing. Lots of heartwarming and funny moments leading to an awesome finale. I liked the villains, being legitimately fucked up and a challenge.

The gag where Yor mistakes Loyd's actions for cheating despite clearly being different is pretty hilarious and takes a tired drama trope to being a lot funnier.

It also works better than most other times the trope has been used because for all intents and purposes, Yor is functionally retarded.

ANN had an absolutely embarrassing interview with the author of Dungeon Meshi. She shut down all the stupid dogshit takes and headcanon in the western fandom that popped up as the anime started airing.

I think it's really funny and telling about the pure split between western fandom and artist that half of the questions were about gay twitter fandom shit meanwhile Kui is shilling Panzer Dragoon. It makes me wish she asked more pertinent questions about the anime/manga production but I guess that's expecting too much. She probably gave the best response she could on the whole situation and I'd be a touch disappointed if she started going heavily into fandom shit.

She's talked in (Japanese) interviews about how she was ultimately more influenced by video games like Ultima over pen and paper dungeon crawlers. If you look you can even find a list of games she recommends. She has a wealth of knowledge that the idealogues at ANN have no interest of engaging with.

The Western anime fandom is just so deeply retarded, man. It's all fag shit and fanfics enforcing some ridiculous headcanon. Shippers by far being the worst: you cannot have a tender female relationship or a close male one without Western anime fans reading homoshit into it.

The reasons they hate Punpun is because he's male, isn't an attractive character (that we can see), and has a libido. If the character were a woman or attractive dude, all would be forgiven and even justified. Any trauma normal men go through means nothing to these people and they will do whatever they can to make it a bottom-up issue rather than a top-down one. That's why Aiko is made out to be an innocent angel who did absolutely nothing wrong except be with Punpun. Her trauma is more important than Punpun's in their eyes, despite the narrative making it clear that both are incredibly damaged, delusional, and horrible for each others well-being.

I know, no culture war bullshit, but cultural Marxism and postmodernism is a fucking menace to anyone with even a modicum of respect for the author, their intent, and their work. Ryoko Kui makes an epic fantasy cooking manga, gives an interview, and they ask about how Senshi's bulge subverts fanservice expectations and how Marcille and Falin are totally lezzing out. It's deeply fucking embarrassing and makes me MATI.

The much better JP interview with Kui Ryoko and her editor Hiroi Masaru. A kinda summary from what I get through phone translation. I still recommend "reading" it if you can though especially for second page talking about her dislike.

First page is things influence DunMeshi and Kui's doubt on fantasy genre.
Typical Jrpg (FF and DQ), DnD, Wizardry. She wants to play many fantasy games to expand on her idea of 'fanatasy'. She likes rpg and text games in general since they aren't difficult. Disco Elysium, Legend of Grimrock, 13 Sentinels and Paranomasite File23 were mentioned. Fantasy books include LoTR, Narnia and The never ending story.
Kui's editor was the one pushing her to write DunMeshi as a serialized manga instead of her proposal writing a scifi manga. Kui didn't think a fantasy story would sell well. Hiroi thinks otherwise because he saw lots of people (teenagers and young adults) drawing fantasy illustration online. Fortunately, there were also lots of fantasy manga coming out at that time comparing to the time where Kui was much younger.
Hiroi also pushes second half to expand the world building more rather than limiting story to Laios group dungeon exploring only. That didn't change original intention for main plot of saving the world.

Second page.
Kui's idea, inevitably whether if someone dislike or like something, they'll think about it a lot.
Kui being a picky eater since young age, but she gets used to eating food with other people and like it. Hiroi also took her many places for delicious food.
Human relationship, fashion and modern times were mentioned as things Kui dislikes beside food.
Video games stuff, she likes to play on Steam Deck, more convenient. She likes to play on easy (from first page), but she is also happy that there are difficult games not for everyone. She doesn't think video game elementes can be incorporated to manga since people can have different experience in a video games, including ones have different endings.

Third page
Kui prefers keeping name simple, avoids specific number and language. Shuro party was made for players like to have female party members and plant-based names.
Hiroi was the one scouting Kui, because he thought her comic of a person eating soba through nose was funny. Hiroi, editors and writers at Harta guided Kui how to draw serialized work. Kui thought manga would probably end around vol 5, since vol 4 is fighting red dragon. But story still had to go on, she were slowly losing her interest. Even feeling quite anxious for story would after vol 10. She still glad to finish manga in 10 years, a great learning experience.

Fourth page
Viyda again,Kui loves cute artstyle from Saga Frontier 2, FF tactics and used to trace FF7 character.
Kui was surprised at how much control she has for her manga, idea and presentation considering making video games requiring more people doing more works. She finds indie game developer are very inspiring. Playing Baldurs Gate helps her interested in playing Planescape, but she has lots of problem in non-translating part in Planescape. There is like one person doing translation for Planescape.
Other games she played, Skyrim, Let's School, Papers Please, Return of Obra Dinn. Waiting for entire FF7 remake fully release then playing it.
She reads 1984 after finishing DunMeshi serialization and likes it a lot.

Old Famitsu in February interview to her about video games.

>tfw you find out the English VA dub actress Jenna Ellis dies on the same day My Hero Academia ended its manga serialization

Sometimes, it really sucks being late to things 😔
