I can't remember what the last dub I watched was. Maybe Gundam ReRise back in December?
Oh wait, it was the MHA Vigilantes dub. It didn't do anything wrong, but maybe that's a case of "working well with the material they're given" since Vigs is pretty unspectacular for the parts covered so far.

I watch dubs when they're available tbh. It means i can actually look away from the screen and do things. Its given me an appreciation for them over time. The terrible ones are usually the most hilarious, and the ones that try, damn man, they blow the nips out of the water. Subs are for when the dubs are ass and i actually want to experience the show as intended (JoJos for instance).

I wish I had that much gag reflex or spine. I'm watching Dai-Guard subbed even though I know this show (briefly) ran on Toonami because despite coming from the same people who dubbed Evangelion, I didn't recognize any of the VAs. I abandoned my effort to watch Gundam 00's dub because even though I liked their Lockon and Ali, Brad Swaile was not only miscast as Setsuna, but all the acting was terribly directed despite how they JUST came off of Death Note! HOW DO YOU REGRESS SO QUICKLY?!?!

Sometimes im doing shit man. And sometimes i've already watched sub and just want background noise. I own the blu rays to half the anime i watch anymore, i might as well take advantage of the english tracks which half the time are in better sound quality for a 5.1 setup instead of Japan's insistence on 2.0 audio.

A dub is only as strong as its director. I've honestly come to believe this over time. You can have solid actors. If they aren't being told "Hey, this character doesn't sound like this, fix your take", it wont sound good. Its like having a bunch of computer parts in a box. They can be good parts. You still need someone to put them together. If that person sucks, well... mistakes happen.

This James Corrigall dude probably was more interested in being ADR director for Black Lagoon and SEED.
 


I’ve been reading Mikadono Sanshimai wa Angai, Choroi for almost a few years now, and I forgot that the anime released almost a week ago. So far, the manga is getting good since the characters are now meeting new rivals who are kind of like them, but it’s almost like there’s alter egos of their real selves .

The manga itself is kind of a mix of harem and shoujo, along with comedy. Either way, it’s a nice and funny read.
 
Might be a hard sell but the direction for The Summer Hikaru Died has been pretty fantastic so far, its pretty difficult for horror anime to be scary but there's been a few moments that got me a little jumpy. If you want to watch something with a Higurashi vibe, its worth checking out.
The opening is also pretty good.

Though, I do remember reading only the first three chapters of the manga and I never managed to finish it. Maybe I know have an excuse to get back into it.

It's been so long that I forgot many of the important points.
Same with that spin-off they made based on a mobile game. I don't even remember what any of it was about. Only that for some reason it was a different universe and Mami was alive.

Not that complicated. Hameru's trapped Nyanners and the whole universe inside herself because she can't stop pining for her gf. Best to assume anyone who turns out still alive in the movie is from when Godoka salvaged their soul like she does for every Meguca.

I'll shill Akage no Anne again. An anime dubbed by White Africans in the 80s before they started getting genocided. There's the meme about 90s dubs being awkward, yet one from an obscure studio in the 80s somehow clowns on the new series' dub. I'll take theater actors over cosplayers any day.

Frieren might be antithetical to them; a show with slow methodic pacing about enjoying life's little things, clashing with the goldfish attention spans of your average tiktok victim.

The first couple movies are just a recap of the series. I don't think there's even any new animation in it except a single scene. You can skip watching them if the original series is still fresh in your memories. The third movie Rebellion is a sequel and is a pretty good. It's a bit awkward in a way since the series ended pretty conclusively with no intent for a sequel, so Rebellion didn't really need to exist, and itself ends semi-conclusively with room for another sequel which they're finally coming out with. But they came up with about the most interesting idea you could go with for a sequel to the series given there wasn't really room for one and I enjoyed it.

As far as other spin-offs go, I kind of fell off following Madoka stuff after a while so I haven't read all of them, but as far as the manga go the rule seemed to be that manga that followed the original cast (usually via a what if scenario in a failed timeline Homura went through) like Oriko or The Different Story were decent to great, while the manga about original characters in another city like Kazumi or Suzune were bad and not worth reading. I haven't watched the more recent spin-off anime that adapts the gacha game, I mostly just heard people who played the gacha complaining that it didn't adapt the story right.
