Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Are the other movies good? I recently watched the series for the first time. and enjoyed it, but I don't know anything about the spinoffs or sequels.
The first two are basically the series condensed, so you don’t need to see them.

It’s the third that is the continuation of the series proper, and while it is controversial within the fanbase, I personally loved it, and would highly recommend you see it.

Oh my God, Kaoru Hana is wholesome as fuck. This is becoming my favorite of the year and I'm still at 2 episodes - I heard it gets even better the more it goes on. 2 episodes already managed to solve more shit than half of Kimi ni Todoke s1, that's so refreshing.

Found a manga at the library, Fool Night, and it's hooked me in.

In the far future, thick dark clouds have enveloped the earth into perpetual night, so natural plants died out. To keep oxygen levels high, humanity came up with a solution: transfloration. Due to ethical issues, only people with terminal illnesses get implanted with seeds that will turn them into plants called spiriflor within two years where they effectively live forever as such. They get paid ten million yen for their efforts, though, so it's a-okay.

Main character Toshiro Kamiya lives with his psychotic mother and his job barely allows them to live, and when she stabs him in one of her fits, he tricks his childhood friend, who works for the company, into letting him take on transfloration so he could have the money, though the reality of how short two years is hits him quick. Oh, and he can "hear" the spiriflora now, so he's a temp hire for the company. Being able to eat something every day now is a great motivator to keep on living.

Lovely art and composition, it has a cinematic flow at times. And the body horror, while not unique, is unsettling in the right ways. It's the mangaka's debut manga, really hitting it off strong here.

Though I do find it completely hilarious how a manga can just be given a rating for "existential themes". Literally "2deep4u".

Fucking hell, Viz, you're so embarrassing.

Panty and Stocking Season 2 is still pretty fun, the card episode was pretty fun
It really is a gem, there's just something amusing about a parody card having the word malding in it.
Plus, the music so far is very good, hope they can release the official remix of fly away soon.

I mean the description is accurate if you play TGC's, you will mald eventually lmao once some guy brings out the cheese deck and one shots you.

Also they showed a d100 dice. That made me happy, because you never actually see those monsters lol.

Hand maid May is unironically cute.

I don't know what it was about the early 2000s and having sexy robot maids. Kurumi and Mahoro come to mind.

It's been years but I'm back in the game and watching anime again. Started with the Evanescence adaptation, and it's pretty good so far, with kind of a Blade Runner meets Dark City setup. I've definitely heard that it gets bizarre later on and there's a game show episode, but I might be getting it confused with Texhnolyze.
The OP is excellent.

This and cute android girls with superhuman strength. No one talks about this little niche phenomenon that really only existed in the '90s and early-aughts, I find it oddly wholesome and I wish it'd make a comeback. Think there's been a few attempts.

It didn't get much attention last year but I enjoyed My Wife Has No Emotion although Mina is technically a kitchen robot, not a maid (you have to pay extra to activate her maid functions). There is a maid robot character in the manga, Meido, but the anime adaptation ended about five chapters before she was introduced.

Spring 2025's Apocalypse Hotel had an android girl, Yatsuyo, as the main character thought she was more of a hotelier robot than a maid; the actual cleaning duties were performed by non-humanoid cleaning robots.
