Why do you think Frieren is so popular?

No stupid "Himmel was really actually evil" bullshit
No "The demons are actually good"
No "the demons are actually a metaphor for immigrants/queers/nonwhites and actually the victims" bullshit.
Yeah but it's still like shit you could make happen with really good kung fu where Goku's from. If it's anything physical (even like stopping time or whatever) he'll figure it out or tank it at this point.
To kill Superman/Goku you need stuff like mind control magic or A Spell That Just Instantly Turns A Dude Into Goo or something.
Cardcaptor Sakura could defeat Goku, Superman, and Frieren.

I can't entirely blame them, almost all of the media they've grown up with has tried to assign some kind of moral complexity to its villains. When something tries to go for something simpler, a villain or race of villains that are as straightforward as can be, they get frustrated because the writing isn't what they've come to expect. That lack of something "more" to the villains is called bad, because it is "less" than what they have seen. Even Fist of the North Star had Kenshiro bury Shin even though he was the biggest dickhead and completely ruined Kenshiro's life. What the kids don't understand is that it's ok for something to be as simple as "CRUSH DEMONS. KILL DEMONS. SLICE A DEMON HEAD OFF WITH A KATANA"
Don't fool yourself. The only reason Frieren won't get a coexistence ending, is that it almost certainly won't get an ending, period. The manga is on hiatus, which is unlikely to ever end, given the corner it had been written into.

If we do get an ending where the demons are all exterminated without hesitation and everyone considers it a good thing it would be hilarious. The butthurt would be epic!
Shame to hear that the manga is in hiatus, though.

Happens to em all eventually. You spend every day hunched over drawing and writing inside, probably smoking and or drinking because editors and publishers are cut throat in his business. You're gonna develop health issues, most mangaka do
I wonder how Oda, the One Piece guy, does it. Either way, you must end the manga at some point... Before death or cancellation "finishes" it for you.

I wonder how Oda, the One Piece guy, does it.
Oda takes breaks every three or so chapters on top of weeks where the magazine itself is on break for holidays and whatnot. It also helps Oda is young compared to his career peers at 51; Tezuka died at 65, Go Nagai is still around in his 80s, Miura was 54 when he died but also had a heart condition, Toriyama made it to 68, etc.

The thing is that allegedly editors pressure mangakas to write to exhaustion or worse, with few concessions. That's the popular depiction of the thing.

The problem with Deku is that he's a Magical Girl protagonist in a battle Shonen series.
Magical girl protagonists are actually endearing.

This was mandated by the magazine many years ago because they didn't want their golden goose (once they realized they got one) to keel over. Oda used to smoke until he got hospitalized I think with pneumonia around 2010. The man still has your typical mangaka sleep schedule as far as I know unless that's what having assistants is for, and he has his own living quarters specifically for work (and another solely to store fan-mail) because he got rich enough to do that. His family's literally set for life.

It's not wrong. Was certainly like that in the 80's, though I think they're loosening up now. At least on the surface and if you are selling well

I think the issue is that a lot of media since the 2000’s is “wait those demonized people might not be evil” and turning it to 11 because multiple reasons.

Tolkien who is effectively the grandfather of modern fantasy was a major Catholic. The Orcs themselves are not really evil innately, they could turn to good because in Tolkien’s world view no one is beyond redemption. Sauron and the other fallen beings are evil though. As are the fallen Numenorans. However that was due to innate choice in serving effectively crybaby nihilist mega Satan. Sauron is more autistic Satan who likes soft power over hard power.

I think it’s nice to just have evil and manipulators getting comeuppance in fiction. Rather than doing some gay “the existence of grey means black and white morality doesn’t exist”. Like yeah you have to do gritty shit like kill bandits, that’s not even grey morality. Grey morality would be punished starving villagers who were helping the bandits because they went far beyond the excusable and now you have to make an example.

This latest arc of SpyXFamily has been pretty amusing.

We've got Loid, Yor and Yuri stuck as audience members for a talk show that just got hijacked by terrorists, which would have been easily handled by any one of them except they can't do anything while the other two are around, and then it turns out that the terrorists are just big fans of a soap opera that just ended who are mad because the lead actress, who is sleeping with the Minister of Broadcasting, forced an ending where her character got amnesia and dumped the love of her life for the rich douchebag character, whose actor she had the hots for. So now the terrorists are forcing a reshoot of the final episode where the romantic couple actually stays together. With Yor ending up as a minor character who, it turns out, has a kiss scene with another minor character.

Demon post. Zoltraak back to amazon along with nigger ''elves''.

Not one person thinks this can be turned to good, nor did Tolkien. Taking shit he mused about near the end of his life is not set in stone lore...
It's gonna be sad when volume 10 comes out. Richard either dies/fades when the Grail explodes or we get the typical Narita ending where nothing happens
He will get to see fairy Ayaka in the afterlife. Along with Artoria.

I’m more talking the philosophical sense. Tolkien as a Catholic believed that ultimately every being on Earth can repent and turn to God because of God’s endless mercy and love for his creation. The only irredeemable monsters in LoTR were those who rejected the offer to stand judgement before Eru.

Literally within my philosophy there is the thought that God can forgive anyone for their actions. However, they still do have to pay. Mercy without Justice is a monstrous thing.

Mind you that a whole theme of Morgoth and his fall was good not being able to understand evil. The other Valar didn’t understand why Morgoth decided to spaz out due to him being the 2nd most powerful being in creation (tied with Manwe though).
