The art is also seriously impressive especially when you consider they're delivering this kind of quality weekly.
Oh shit, it's the Air Gear guy. His artwork has always been impeccable.

This now annoys the author to no end because she can't focus on a lot of the parts of the story she wants without including the romance bits now.

It's why apparently, she's not a big fan of the purple haired guy.
I am extremely wary of creators who openly hate something about their creation, especially if they hate a character forced upon them. That colors your skills as a writer if you're constantly annoyed and have a bitter taste in your mouth about them because you can't get rid of them to save yourself the hassle.

Yeah, that's never a good sign; I remember the author of JJK having similar issues and killing off characters because they were popular. This kind of people can have one good idea but proceeds to shit on it out of spite.

And it's really sad how she doesn't recognize Jinshi as a good character in a sea of stupid and one-dimensional people. Imagine this show without Jinshi, it would be just "Super Maomao Against the Chinese Empire!". I suspect the author is a femcel with a lot of brain worms.

When it comes to creators killing characters off out of spite, how does the Japanese community react to such events, compared to when Western creators do the same, i.e. Joel in The Last of Us 2, Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, John Connor in Terminator Dark Fate, and He-Man in Kevin Smith's He-Man adaptation?

Those weren't done by their own creators though?

And it's never ever done well because oriental social conventions are stupid.
It only sucks when it’s on the two extremes of relevance to the plot: when it’s only a secondary element to entice readers or when it’s not only a primary element but the driving focus of the plot. The best balance is having a good focus on it but also giving your characters any other motivation. Unless it’s an isekai, then it’s softcore (or not-so-softcore) pornography in the first chapter.

was that the one where obama became a japanese girl?
Yes, lmao. Fucking John Enkidu Omaha the literal African 44th American president trapped in a Japanese girl's body somehow. It's been long enough since I read Air Gear that I don't remember whatever ridiculous context there is for this.

"According to the report, the company suffered a 51.3% decrease in operating profit compared to the previous year, driven by the poor performance of its core publishing and IP creation business (a 51.6% decrease in operating profits year-on-year)."

Holy shit that's brutal. Suffah.

Nooooo

Goddamn. What the fuck?

The genre became a satire of itself years ago. Hopefully whatever new setting they choose, it will be less demoralising than "just die and hope you become a chad".

If I had to place my bets it will be return to high school anime. It's about as safe as you can go, but one can hope for a resurgence in scifi or post apocalypse settings.

High school 'something' (either romance, shonen, horror) will never go away, it's a staple; but we might get more battle shonen centered around schools, isekai are just battle shonen with a fantasy coating. Fantasy anime may get the short end of the stick because of the close association with isekai and the inevitable comparisons with Frieren, so the genre may be left alone for a while - unfortunately.

I'm betting on a wave of mecha anime driven by Gundam's 50 year anniversary in 2029. Bandai/Sunrise is already warming up with teasers, commemorative videos and partnerships (the Hololive Gundams as an example). You can bet authors will pivot to that genre, chasing the popularity. We might get our scifi, post-apoc and silly space operas because of that!

And maybe a ressurgence of mahou shoujo: there's a lot of anime about witches for a while now, adapting the theme is pretty easy. It doesn't even need to pull a Madoka, a slightly edgy/more mature mahou shoujo from the get go would do the job pretty well. Uma Musume already has proven how grown-ass men will watch cute girls doing silly things if there are high stakes and fierce competition.

Mecha costs way too much to animate, even middle of the road 3D models get shat on repeatedly, so I doubt it will return. Mahou Shoujo seemingly didn't get as much traction when studios went for it after Madoka's success (holy shit, 15 year ago). It's not impossible that they'll try again though.
