Another Tom and Jerry movie?

It reminds me of the live-action Rocky & Bullwinkle movie. That's not a good sign.
At least it has Chloe Grace Moretz and that guy who played Señor Chang in Community, I think? Uhh, yeah, doesn't look good.

So now we have Woody Woodpecker, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Looney Tunes, The Smurfs and the aforementioned Rocky & Bullwinkle. What else needs to receive a crappy and unrequested CGI treatment?

This and Space Jam 2 are going the live action, animated hybrid style.

I'm intrigued, although it will be weird to see Tom and Jerry with live action owners.

At least it's not going CGI like Stuart Little.

You can tell the movie will be shit because they use modern music generic bullshit for the trailer. This movie wants to be something that it's not and can never be. The movie NEEDS to be smart, but it will sacrifice its writing in favour of "appealing to all audiences," which it can already do by having the writing be good. It will also make a return on its investment by releasing the movie in China. Movies today don't have to be good because they can just release the film in China and make a killing. The reason Harley Quin movie failed was that China wouldn't allow them to release the movie there.

I was coming in expecting a fully CGI 3D Model uncanny valley creepiness, as seen in the just horrid 2000s Yogi Bear Movie or Alvin & The Chipmunks.

That they're going the Space Jam approach and keeping the traditional 2D designs is a very good move. I expect it to be a movie parents can play for their kids as they work in the background.

Tom and Jerry, eh? Two sides of the same coin. The two will start the film as enemies, a classic Cat V Mouse tale, just as God intended. That is, until dogs/aliens/dog-alien hybrids show up to wreak havoc, and Tom and Jerry are forced into an unholy alliance to save the world, while forming an unlikely friendship along the way. They either end on good terms, or go their separate ways, a begrudging mutual respect between them, until the direct-to-streaming sequel forces them back together.

Honestly, I might pirate this, the way I did with Scoob. It looks fine, I guess, but not worth paying money to see

And what exactly is your definition of "smart"? Tom & Jerry is nothing but slapstick humor. It's one level below Looney Tunes because at least with Looney Tunes the characters can talk, so you can do more with them. With Tom & Jerry all you need to do is make sure Jerry is always fucking with Tom or vice-verse, and then you can put them in whatever setting you want, as shown in the classic cartoons. I remember one episode where they got away from the "house" setting and made Tom go fishing, and they still managed to have the slapsticks and jokes work well with the setting.

Or, and here's a though, maybe it's just a shit movie made by dumb people? When the live action Sonic The Hedgehog movie grabs people's attention more than the Harley Quin movie, you know you done fucked up.

If you ever watched the first season of spongebob you know what I'm talking about. Those episodes have humour that both adults and children can enjoy while having virtually no expense to the other. Tom and Jerry isn't the "smartest" show out there, but you know there have been times where the show both appealed to the funny receptors of adults and children. From this trailer I feel like a 30 yo could watch this movie and never have any stimulation of the mind

That's not exactly "smart" as much as it is "Good Writing & Pacing". The reason why Spongebob was good in the 1st season was because it wasn't trying to be Ren & Stimpy, at least not until after the 1st movie and thats when the show took a dark turn for the worst.

Worst case scenario with this T&J movie is that the human characters and story will be the main focus with T&J being secondary, and if that's the case, like others have said, we've been here before (Rocky & Bullwinkle being the last one). Either way, everyone knows Hollywood is shit and trying to revive old stuff and "reboot" it because they can't think of anything creative or original anymore and are desperate for a quick cash grab. We still have the old cartoons, so it's not like you can never get your fix on some good T&J.

Not sure if I should watch this or not. Wasn't a huge fan of the original shorts when I was a kid.

I haven't watched any of the shorts in a long while, but when I did, I always got the impression that Jerry was the villain, even though the writers were always insisting that he was the hero. Anyway, the best T&J short of all time was
, and it was the only one to my knowledge that didn't have them fighting each other.

Yeah, I couldn't really watch any of the shorts without getting pissed at Jerry for fucking with Tom so much (sometimes it's vice versa but still).
