Another Tom and Jerry movie?

I don't have a lot of hope for this. Tom and Jerry doesn't work in a format longer than 7-8 minutes: the joke gets stale by then. The Looney Tunes theatrical-length releases generally struggle for the same reason, and they have the advantage of a wider cast and jokes to work with. Tom and Jerry doesn't have that going for them. Even if the notorious 1992 movie didn't have them talking, or any songs period, it still would've been an abysmal failure because nothing about having a plot or larger cast worked. It's why every direct-to-video movie has equally failed despite being more true to the formula (aside from that Willy Wonka remake crossover); because it gets real stale real fast.

Somebody saw Alvin and the Chipmunks and Smurfs live action movies and said: "We haven't done that in a few years."
Those were awful but they also made tons of money so here we go again.
I'm sure the success of Sonic had something to do with this.

The animation doesn't look good.
To be specific, it doesn't look funny.
They're clearly copying the old stuff, I saw several facial expressions and gags from the old cartoons but:
- 3D doesn't work for Tom & Jerry
- real backgrounds don't work for Tom & Jerry
- the noises they make (such as their laughs, screams and the occasional sentence they say), which often made a joke funny in the cartoons, aren't there

This will suck dick but everybody will watch it and they'll make 2 sequels.

Looks like worse animation to live action than what Hollywood was capable of in 1945. 😕

(Still not sure how I feel about the Family Guy version of this.)
How they did the 1945 dance scene. Dunno why, but I love this kind of explanatory video. 🤷‍♂️

I don't understand the vitriol it's getting. It looks like regular old Tom and Jerry with updated pop-cultre references to me.

I was about to post that I must be the only one here who thought it looked fine. But now I see there are two of us.

I think it was a pretty brave (in a good way) to stick with the 2D style. Can you imagine the horror that would have been Tom and Jerry in 3D re-imagining?

I have a funny feeling this is going to be a movie where the actors annoy me and we get 20-30 minutes of good Tom and Jerry Material.

I would have liked it more if they had just filmed all the actors from the waist down, like in the old cartoons. Showing Chloe Grace Moretz and the rest of the cast means they are going to have to be showcased, and that means they are going to be taking up time from Tom and Jerry. I would have liked it more if they just created a live action environment that emulated the cartoons more.

That said, Tom and Jerry themselves look right and will undoubtedly be the best thing in the movie.

Goddamn that would be both amazing and funny as hell. Have big name stars that everyone loves, and when you go see the movie you only see up to their knees. However with that being said I couldn't imagine either scenario working well over 30 mins.

What if they included Mammy Two-Shoes but she was a successful businesswoman instead of a maid? It seems like the sort of compromise that would be sufficiently woke to appease the racial grievance industry but which would also mean that one of the main characters from the classic shorts isn't glaringly absent.

When I was a kid I thought she was Tom’s owner. She wasn’t?
