His dad was the absolute best thing in the HAWP videos.

So did Anthony Birch latch on to SJW politics because he has (white) daddy issues, or did he develop daddy issues as a result of drenching his brain in marxist identity politics? What do you think?

BroPillTeam had droped a chatlog where he had, somehow, had extensive dialog with him about Gamergater shit, where Antknee here came out and said he pretty much believes she's a bag of shit, but feels forced to support her because Gators were worse. BroPill dropped this and evidently it had consequences for him.

In the replies there you see him trying to play it off with a "We.. uh, y-yeah man I said all this all the time ya know it's not breaking news..." but it's obviously had direct implications since then in a way it hadn't before.

"I dunno how you tell a AAA game story where the moral is 'you're average and that's fine"

That seems like it'd be the easiest thing in the world.

War Game, your unit gets slaughtered and you just barely make it out alive. You're not special you got lucky.
Space exploration game; you're a cog in a huge machine and you need to do the job you were specially trained to do in order to accomplish the job you were sent there to do.
Racing game; you're new and everyone thinks your a douchebag, prove them wrong with skill and hard work

fuck what other kinds of genres? The takeaway from this is haha jesus christ this is a "professional videogame writer" more or less admitting he has no idea how to write and why am I not surprised.

Oh you want to talk about a company with some really fucked up cynical shit going on, it's Boom. They did a pivot like 10 years back to focus totally on being the "cool hip company" and hiring burch is the straight up cynical move they'd make.

Someone who isn't me should do a little digging. There's enough ex employees out there you can find out some fun stuff.

:offtopic: The only good comic that Boom puts out is their Power Rangers books. Both are -so far, anyways- free of super political BS and the writers on both series keep their personal opinions out of it. Whether or not that's a result of Saban's overseeing things is anyone's guess.

But yeah, Boom otherwise hires some lolcow-y writers. I'm surprised Kate Leth (who did that awful Power Up! book) doesn't have a thread yet, because she's done some really heinous shit.

Saw this floating around, figured the thread could use some content. Burch can't relate to games where you're a hero, brings up gamergate. Even works in some self flagellation.

The concept that the hero (or protagonist, but hero works better) of a video game is "unique" or otherwise special comes from traditional heroic myth and fantasy, where the hero is only the hero because they're blessed by a god or a king or whatever. That's why they can perform great feats and do things others would get punished for - because they're special and because God (or the Gods) said so. It's deeply ingrained in Western culture at this point, though it's been with more modern individualist parameters for being a hero (wrong place, wrong time / pulling yourself up by the bootstraps).

So, no. Those kind of narratives did not lead to GamerGate. They've been around since long before Western civilizations had paper, let alone vidya.

Yeah, Tony - the "singular hero" narrative that has existed from the moment that people learned to put pen to parchment is totally the reason why goobergrape began allll the way back in ye olden times of 2014.

Jesus dude, stop trying to beat a dead horse in order to cling to what little relevance you have left. Just go fuck your sister like we all know you've been dying to do for years and then beg your ex-wife for your WiiU back.
