I know you just want him to fade into the darkness, but what the fuck was he supposed to do? There isn't a brand in established media that would touch Cumia after the darkie in darkness saga, setting up his own shit was literally his only recourse to keep making money.

Granted, he ran the company the same way he ran his life, but let's pretend he isn't Anthony Cumia and is just some Morning zoo fuck who got jumped in NY by a hooker and found his life spiraling, what would you have advised him to do?

He shouldn't had Keith the Cop manage the network, for one thing.

For another, he should've moved Heaven and Earth to keep Gavin and LoS on Compound.

He also shouldn't have bought a brand new house in another state while trying to maintain his house, rent the studio, and run the network at the same time.

I love Ant, but he needed more support for this venture.
 
Gotcha, he shouldn't have New Jersey half ass drywall patched it. I agree with that. I don't think he's ever really had executive function. He's the kind of guy who is used to making a few phone calls and things are "taken care of" without ever reflecting. What Sam Roberts is to eating regular food is Anthony Cumia's ability to not fuck up.

I'd say it's funny how people stopped returning his phone calls when the money stopped rolling in, but that's showbiz!

He could have faded out and Christ forbid - been a normal person.

He didn't have a normal job like a normal person - he worked a radio job for 20 years, with many of those years being on multi million dollar a year contracts. He likely saw $30,000,000 before his career was over - it wouldn't be a big ask (and something Opie repeatedly warned him about) for him to set aside something like $5,000,000 and live out his life without devolving into absolute cringe. It's not like he wasn't aware what was going to happen - he used to be a guy who would trash people for overstaying their welcomes (Stern, Leslie Neilson, etc).

Just do something part time (a podcast, twitch stream, get involved with a business, work on a standup set, be actual friends with people, tour the world, etc).

Compound Media was ill-advised in every regard. He had 0 knowledge about running a business and was competing with Spotify and SiriusXM. His friends had such little confidence in it they didn't commit to it in any capacity (with Jim Norton deciding that a show with Sam Roberts was more worth doing lmao). Ant had negative momentum going into it - with even avowed racists thinking "You probably shouldn't put that on Twitter with your real name". What advertisers - who already presented a huge issue with Opie and Anthony after Sex for Sam 3 - were going to flock to "too racist for Satellite radio" Anthony? Fucking no one.

Fading into the darkness after being in the spotlight for 20+ years would have been the smart thing for him to do.
 
He could've said and done everything he did on his own show on a podcast and a Youtube channel, even the Artie debacle, and he'd be in better shape than he is now. It's such a shame.

I blame Keith. And Opie.
 
Once on their own both Opie and Ant were going to crash and burn and by on their own I don't mean not being together they'd they would have crashed and burn together once they no longer had a corporate daddy to keep them in line.

Opie is mentally ill I mean legit I've said it before whatever mental illness his mother had Opie has inherited. Once he lost everything paranoia took over and that would have always happened even with Ant.

Ant's a degenerate it's that plain and simple without a corporation and contract to keep him in check he was always going to go down this route.
 
Ant loves playing at being a big shot godfather of comedy who bankrolls projects and develops talent like a "white" Jay-Z, so it was inevitable that something like Compound would be made and also wind up in the state that it's in. It could work if he knew anything about business, had industry connections worth something, could find partners and employees who weren't desperate losers, or had any ability to generate new sources of income instead of just leeching off of the old O&A fanbase, but none of that is the case.

Opie has a wife and kids to keep him from going too far off the deep end. He also had the foresight to keep some money aside and put it into property. Though the combination of high expenses and low income means he's chewed through a lot of that wealth.

As previously mentioned ITT, the smart thing for the Opester to do would be to sell the Manhattan apartment, move to the Hamptons full-time and pick up a job with a local radio station. Sure he'd probably only get paid $35-$40k a year or whatever, but if he doesn't have any debts and his investments are still paying dividends/interest, he and Mrs. Opie could live comfortably enough once the kids are off to college (assuming his kids don't expect to mooch off their parents).

Ant's a lost cause. He should've gone back to HVAC when his radio career was over. Not necessarily as a tech, maybe a salesman as he has the gift of the gab and could've done quite well out of it.

If no piece of established media wants him, he should just go quietly into retirement and take up some healthier hobbies in life. Nobody wants to hear from him anymore, his work isn't funny anymore. The reason he is trying to stay in the limelight is because of both his ego and because he burned through all his fortune as quickly as he made it.

It is not anyones fault but his own for him both ruining his career and not saving any of the money he made when he was on top. He has chosen the path he now walks, he now has to pay the price for it.

I unironically believe that Opie has relatively severe autism or some similar form of spectrum disorder on a level more significant than most would consider. The strange mannerisms he has and the abrupt way that he loudly emphasizes certain words when he speaks are reminiscent of autistic speech patterns. Additionally, his oft infuriating one-trick-pony trademark "jokes" he performs (like destroying a personal object of significance that a guest has brought in to the studio) remind me of how autistic or Asperger's sufferers, after discovering a method that garners attention, might continue to perform that action further into the future, long after it is no longer funny or even if it was never really funny to begin with but just brings them attention.

Countless people who have worked with Opie recount how he was insufferable and self-absorbed to work with and how you had (to quote Cumia) to "walk on Greggshells" in order to get through the day working for him. This behavior too, of behaving as an unpleasable tyrant around others when placed in positions of power, is a symptom of autism that I have witnessed personally online as well as in real life, and additionally suggests failure to read on and process human emotions, which is another staple symptom of autism.

This is one of the big reasons why his actions come off as being narcissistic in nature. It's possible Opie is a genuine narcissist as well, but I think it is more likely he is simply grossly autistic. Because he is an early gen-xer, he was not raised in a time where autism was medically recognized in the way it is now, so he ended up slipping under the radar as an autist and (at least until the era of the internet) largely going unnoticed as a sperg by the people in his vicinity.
 

I indeed think it is fascinating that a man that wants to justify his own disposition to quite frankly deviate in such a manner, They both boost views off each other at this stage, so the proof in the pudding is pretty much there. I cannot believe that Compound Media is netting over a million a year, impossible. Just two old ladies bickering who is broker at this stage. If Ant was doing so good, then why even bother for the other boost in views? Niggerlicious and gay, real-estate is free from both of these niggers. Shouldn't be hard to do an entertaining show...

That was not going to last and the writing was on the wall. By the end, Patrice was dead, Louis Cuck King was too busy with his award winning show and selling out stadiums to do anything more than the occasional call in and Bill Burr’s profile was rising, complete with getting softer than baby shit so as not to offend Netflix executives to score his next special. Towards the end it was Jim Norton and other virtual nobodies. They would not have lasted much past 2016. They would’ve had to do what Howard Stern did which was be the most establishment-friendly cuck out there and invite losers like Adam Conover and Lilly Singh to be studio guests. Ratings would tank and they’d be shoved out the door.

I think Nana overestimated his standing with other comedians. He didn’t realize that showbusiness is a bitch and a two way street and there was no logical reason why his old buddies like Louis CK, Kevin Hart and Bill Burr would want anything to do with a guy who maybe has an audience of a few thousand listeners, which is what Compound Media became. Millions of listeners on terrestrial and satellite radio is completely different. I think he got some token initial support from those guys and he was damn lucky to get it because they didn’t need to.

The Opester was called a loser and an idiot for being honest about his surprise at it happening to him, but at least he has a clearer picture of the state his relationships with these people. Compare that honesty and realistic self assessment to Ant being stunned by the reaction he got when he staggered up to Bill Burr on the other side of the rope in the VIP section of the comedy club and started harassing him. He probably still believes the booking agents of these celebrities when they tell him that their clients' schedules are just too packed for even a half hour phone chat.

I‘ve seen a lot of people online call Luis and the LoS guys retarded, and they aren’t entirely wrong, but shoutout to Luis for knowing exactly when to jump off the sinking Compound ship and start doing their own thing. Wild to think that 5ish years go CM was bigger than Gas Digital.
