There's not much backstory to this shitstorm. Popular YouTuber Anthony "The Needle Drop" Fantano kept a side channel open for shitposty videos and he delisted all of the content since it was facing widespread demonitization. Music website "The Fader" published a shitty hitpiece by Ezra Marcus claiming that he's alt right because of things Sam Hyde and Sargon of Akkad said after he talked to them and saying that making fun of black rap artists makes him racist. After Anthony commented on this revealing the crazy, ridiculous inaccuracies and false equivalencies, a shit ton of music critics came out of the woodwork to whiteknight for Ezra.

Of all the sources of salt from this, one of the biggest is the man who started it all, Ezra Marcus:

So between this and some of the other salt mines we've uncovered recently, is there any sphere of journalism that isn't overrun by far-left wingnuttery?

The problem with journalists in general is that they love to equivocate events and misuse words in order to drum up sensation or to scratch a moral itch, even at the expense of an innocent hobbyist.

They take a word like "hate", which by Webster means "too feel passionate loathing", and transform it into "to make light-hearted and unserious memes that I don't like", sucking all the meaning and ideas that come with it in order to convert it into a weapon that they can throw at anybody who offends them.

They then use the people who are willing to believe anything in line with their personal beliefs as a mob to fill them with these empty words and to swarm those who don't have such shallow and vitiated forms of ideas. Look at how empty the words "justice", "freedom", "racist" and "oppression" are now, and how they are never used to express an idea or to juggle other opinions, but only as missiles. And look at how effective that are!

From the article:
many people on [/mu/] are serious music fans who care about the scores he awards records on The Needle Drop; they are also steeped in the shock-jock culture of 4Chan. Over time, Fantano had begun explicitly catering to the latter crowd’s sensibilities.
I'm not sure how you can be so wrong, so many times, and in so few words. Hell, it's not even consistent- it states that people on /mu/ are both serious music fans and "shock-jocks" and then immediately afterwords implies that there's two separate 'crowds'.
Archived a few of the videos in webm awhile back, afraid I don't have the original mp4s.

It's not like he's universally loved on /mu/ either. He has some fans there sure, but plenty of them hate the guy. Threads on him were usually split down the middle between fans and detractors before devolving into memey shitposting about album ratings.

Anthony's point he makes in the video is about as apt as it gets; he's discussed on a music board because he's a music critic. You'd be better off going after Pitchfork because /mu/ holds Pitchfork generals on a regular basis.

People also tend to call him a Nazi MRA because he appeared on Sargoy's hangouts, even though the two times he appeared there, he disagreed with practically everyone
