PSAs and arguments refuting anti-vax are obviously widespread. But measles and other outbreaks of easily preventable diseases are becoming more frequent, which suggests that the number of people who don't vaccinate their children is increasing despite the medical backlash.
Recent studies show that
these arguments actually make these people's convictions stronger, not weaker, which on the surface is strange and incredibly sad. I think the reason for that is, in the first place, anti-vaxxer's beliefs aren't based on reason. They're based on impressionability, a predisposition to fear "the establishment", and a desire to feel like victims. Many, many people also have a strong adverse reaction to being told they're wrong no matter how oh so very wrong they are or how strong the opposing argument is.
Basically what I'm saying is they're all terminally retarded, and you can't fix stupid.
If you tell them that vaccines do not cause autism, they may stop thinking that, but they will make up a
new different reason for not vaccinating like "it's not natural!" or "it weakens kids' immune systems!" or whatever bullshit before you can say mercury. Their brains are compartmentalization machines dedicated to the sole purpose of defending their egos. And it will never end because that would mean they would have to grow up.
What might have a chance of stopping this is making as sure as possible their opinions cannot spread to others who are undecided. There is an obvious ethical quandary about suppressing these people's speech, and it will feed into their persecution complexes even more, but if it's illegal to tell kids to drink cyanide, it should be illegal to tell impressionable retards with the minds of children not to vaccinate their kids. But it's not and that's the problem.
