A compromise many would even support would be renaming it after Amerigo Vespucci or a catchall like "Explorer's Day." Odd they had to rename it from MLK. There's a bridge in my town that has his name on it, but before that it was a generic name of the street it's on. I thought it was much better with that person's name.
