The Thirty Years' War was a major European conflict primarily fueled by religious tensions between Catholic and Protestant states, with Lutheranism being a prominent Protestant denomination heavily involved in the fighting. Lutheran's were particularly involved in the Holy Roman Empire where many rulers had adopted Lutheranism as the state religion following the Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther. Essentially, the war saw Lutheran states often battling against the Catholic Habsburg dynasty for religious freedom and political power.
Many of the major players in the war, including the rulers of Saxony, Denmark, and parts of northern Germany, were Lutheran, leading to significant involvement in the conflict against the primarily Catholic Habsburg forces.
 
I am a Luthoran. I recognize the divinity of President Luthor and the sanctity of the Holy Lexcorp.
 
LCMS convert here. Born Catholic. I like the fact that the beauty of a liturgical sacramental church hasn't been abandoned. My main objections to the Catholic church are standard historical issues. Faith vs Works, forgiveness only available via confession via Priests. Marian dogmas. The cherry on top is a communist universalist Pope where the criteria of being saved goes down to believing in the same intersectional woke bullshit the atheists believe in. The Pachamama bullshit pushed me over the edge. The Catholic church is perfectly OK with synchronizing earth worship, eco communism, and a one world goverment and a one world religion with Christianity.

I'm not a Calvinist. Calvinists reduce God into Eric Cartman where God constantly chants "Respect my Sovereignty". Then they insist on believers producing evidence of ever increasing levels of holiness where line must constantly go up otherwise, ye be doomed to hell. Very similar to the Catholic church. I don't believe in this. Like Peter when the stress is upon us, we will fuck up big time like when he denied Christ 3 times.

I certainly appreciate some of the Calvinists tenacity to confront modern culture. However they do represent the worst hated stereotype of self righteous Christianity the new atheists presented during the Bush years. Should they take over, they'd string me up and burn me at the stake because I know I wouldn't meet up with their standards.

Catholics correctly identify humanity's propensity to continue to sin and need for continual repentence, though I think they underestimate Christ's forgiveness. There is a balance between unforgiving legalism, salvation via works and a complete libertine attitude towards sin. I hope and pray that Lutheranism reached the right balance. Under the Catholic church rules if taken literally Heaven would nearly be empty. If even the saints and the popes doubted their own salvation, then we are all fucked.

LCMS does have it's own issues with wokeness infiltrating it. They tried to fuck over Ryan Turnipseed pretty hard for his expose. Things kind of sorted over and I think terms have been reached, but the LCMS is operating under boomercon rules where young conservatives are to be distrusted. They mistakenly think courting young unwed or divorced mothers as their planned source of church growth is viable

Protestantism is generally hated here on the farms. It doesn't have the same cachet as pre Vatican II catholicism or eastern orthodoxy. It's like WOW players who are attracted to the hardcore permadeath server. The pomp of an ancient church they can attach themselves for instant credibility combined with their belief in their own works is an irresistible combination.

The Catholics and Orthodox are going to instantly read what I said, and might go nuts. But really... You are here on the Farms. You like the sight of a good car crash. That's why we are all here. We recognize that something terribly has gone wrong, but we simultaneously revel in it's wrongness but are shocked and horrified about what has happened and want better. If I were a perfect Christian, I wouldn't be here.
 
Very sympathetic and or closely aligned with Lutherans despite attending a Presbyterian Church I very much like.
 
My maternal great-grandad's mum was German, so maybe she was, so maybe that makes me Lutheran on an ancestral basis. Unless that only applies to Jews, and in that case, I'm also 1/8th (at least) Russian Jewish, via my Nan's maternal gran. Her husband was also a Catholic, so, it's darkly chuckleworthy that these groups fought at some point, and still do.
 
@Wot Zit Too Yah0996 no im norwegian, protestantism was fanatic back in the day here tho. i have some german catholic in me, but i grew up in a uber secular household which is probably why i find myself tipping the fedora :neckbeard:.
