A little update on my end, I got my set of clubs! I have been enjoying them thoroughly at the local driving range. I hit my driver a little left but I always get a nice bit of distance, my irons are also nice and I am getting much better at hitting those fucking things. The one thing I do have to say about getting lefty gear is that its a bit fickle as you may go into the store looking for a particular set but may end up with something else ( it makes sense since lefties only make up about 5-10% of golfers) but regardless I am thoroughly enjoying them. I am gonna go to a par 3 course to try them out with my family and see how they do, and maybe sneak a top golf visit.
Awesome!!!! I got my new Sub70 driver a bit ago and playing with it has been a game changer and i'm waiting on my wedge from them to come in

Also anyone else use clubs that they really shouldn't for certain distances? What I mean is that I've started using a utility wood anytime im 150 yards out which is on the lower end of my range with it. I guess what I'm asking is do you guys tend to max your range with certain clubs or prefer to hit on the low end of your range

Also in boring Course news Oakmont is gonna shutdown for 2 years while they work on it. Wonder whats its gonna look and play like when its all said and done
I Really wish I was born Early enough to have played on Oakmont east before the PGA fucked it *sigh* also that I was old enough to properly play it when we were members

I think this was the best weekend of golf I have ever played. Genuinely don't know what was more impressive

Friday I played at an executive course front 9. Shot a 36 on a par 34 over 2700 yards. 7 pars 2 bogeys

Sunday morning
Played 18 at a really good course. Par 72 almost 6600 yards. Got 2 birdies and shot an 84.

I owe my current success to the half swing wedge shot and the mastered 2 putt. Once I got those down, the entire game becomes getting the ball within 130 yards of the green as quickly as possible

Saturday played my worst round of golf ever. Have since decided to change the weights around in my driver and go back to slower swing speeds. Only positive was my putts and bunker work.

This weekend was terrible for me. My short game is god awful and my low irons were just pulling constantly

Anyone ever play night golf with glow in the dark balls? Watching a nice tee shot is aesthetic as fuck.

I have wanted to do this but I think those balls and tee times are too expensive to do that
True. I was pretty lucky to have played last night. One of my friends caddies at a country club and gets us out on Monday afternoons so we kind of just stayed out there, lol. My other friend lives right off the course, he had the glow balls. They are expensive though, I think he said $12 a pop. Definitely gives some extra motivation to keep your ball in play. A well struck tee shot looks like a shooting star, it's pretty wild. We played until around midnight and the only reason we called it a night was cause we had an electric cart that was showing low battery. Otherwise we probably would've been out there drinking and playing all night and I'd be so much more hung over than I currently am lol.

That sounds amazing tbh

Re-upping this thread because golf season is almost back.

Does anyone do golf simulators btw? Did one last night with my golf buddies and it seemed alright. Its better than just going to the driving range that has you hit balls straight and gets kinda boring because its a plastic mat and the cold and wind gives you no real idea how well the clubs are doing. But I was a little annoyed with the reading. My shots all have a little draw to them so I start them off a bit to the right but the sensor was reading the initial shot to the right and assuming it either went straight or faded that way. Funnily enough, I wasn't the one getting fucked over either. My buddy's drives go extremely high and the sensor just assumed all of his drives were popping up. Same with his hybrids and fairway woods. Couldn't get anything over 150 yards despite the fact he can consistently hit the ball 200 with his 4 wood. The short game is kinda hard because you can't really judge distance based on a screen and the yardage they tell you. But setting up putts for gimmes and having a scorecard factoring in the handicap makes things fun. As well as, a golf simulator with a ton of course options is really fun. Played the old course at St Andrews. Its also funny that you don't lose any balls on the course and the sensor doesn't pick up on the fact you are hitting a 4 iron out of the fescue

A family friend has golf simulator and I could never get into it specifically because of the wind factor and it would read my drives as dead straight hits which sadly is not the case. What's really good is there is a Driving range around me that has a massive lake and bunkers to give you better targets to avoid then something like Top golf... and the BYOB does make it easier to drag people along

I just can't do driving ranges during the off season. The only real work I can get is hitting driver and driving irons but thats just trying to keep my form and distance with the driver and 2 iron. Golf simulators at least keep it more interesting but its still not the same

been thinking about getting into golf because it seems fun and relaxing + a way to hang out with rich people. any golf bros got advice on starting and what brands to look out for when buying a club?

Get something cheap. If you are just starting, you need to develop your swing first. The kind of clubs you have won't make a difference at first. Once you actually have a swing, then you can start looking into more expensive clubs. But right now, I would be spending money on a good swing coach who can teach you how to hit the ball properly.

Once you have a swing and an idea about putting and short game, go to par 3 courses to start. They are relatively short and will give you experience of being on a golf course. Once you have some experience, go to executive courses. Executive courses are par 3 and par 4 courses so you can get more experience with some longer holes but nothing insane that will kill your spirits. This should take about a year to develop but once you get to the executive course/normal golf course level, you should be ready for good clubs

Somewhere between $200-$500. You can save money by not getting every full set of clubs. If you look to get 8 clubs instead of a full bag of 14 clubs, you can save money by buying clubs with certain sets or individually. If you want to try and save but not get a walmart set, look into a cheap set of irons, a cheap driver, a cheap set of wedges, and an expensive putter. The putter is the one thing that could last a while.

Golf Discount is a decent site but might be a little expensive

2nd Swing is where I got my first set. They might not have something in stock but you can sort on price range for everything.

Rock Bottom Golf is also a place to buy cheap clubs.

Otherwise I would recommend going to golf stores or sports stores and looking. You can also try out some more expensive clubs later and figure out what you would want in the future
