Haven't played golf before, but I recently acquired a free set of clubs and will go to the driving range with some friends, and if it's fun I'll see about doing a course in spring and maybe play regularly. I just like the idea of playing a nice round or two on a Saturday morning or after work.

Have you looked into how to swing a club or getting a lesson or 2? Its much more fun when you know what you are doing and getting a free set of clubs just saved you a ton of money

I've looked into it, and first I'll try and hit some balls at the driving range with a buddy who does play golf, and then in the future I'll take some lessons when the local golf club offers them next. If I like it enough. To play by yourself on the courses here you need a certificate, so that will involve lessons anyway.
The club set is a supremely cheap one from the 90s, I think, without a driver and the putter needing a new grip, but I ain't complaining about something I got for free.

Ahh ok, you are in the german system. Alright, well enjoy hitting some golf balls. It should be a blast

Its a dumb way to try and prevent shitty golfers from playing but that created a worse system
Ultimately, not everyone playing golf is gonna be good at it. Only thing you're doing is just making it harder for everyone to partake.

Plus is it just me, or is Germany underrepresented severely in golf? I'm sure there's some guys. But is there a big time guy rn that's a German?

The point of cheap courses and par 3 courses is to get people to understand how the game works. I don't get mad if I play a cheap course or a par 3 course if I see someone suck or not know whats going on. Its only when you go to a nice course that it matters. They def are making it way harder to participate.

Bernhard Langer is the best German golfer according to golf people. He wins a lot on the DP World Tour and the champions tour

Golf is kinda minor in Germany and generally seen as too posh for most people to even consider it.

Went through a few buckets, it was fun. I mean, I hit like 10% decently well, and most I smacked the ground hard or otherwise didn't hit properly, but hey, first time trying to hit anything. My upper body mobility is kinda shot, I can hardly rotate my body enough for a good swing.
Still, relaxing, fun, gonna continue doing that. Gotta regrip all my clubs tho.

Once you play a bit more you'll realize how addicting it truly is. And if you're even slightly competitive, what a rollarcoaster of emotions just one round can be.

Man I hope the saudis or someone makes a completey indoor course. These winters in the Midwest just blow and the simulators aren't the same besides for some good practice
Simulators are fun for about 2 hours and then by hour 3, you are looking at flights to somewhere south and green fees for courses down there

I love golfing in the Winter. I barely get snow where I live. Seeing the whole course covered in a layer of snow and playing with coloured golfballs is very fun.

Kind of off topic, but as there is no dedicated PGA thread, I might as well post this here.

Scottie’s Masters Dinner menu just dropped and the Scottie Sliders and Skillet Cookie are back. Kino.
