Anyone else thought they were autistic until they met an autistic person?

That's the issue with a lot of people today, isolation gives them time to try and come up with explanations on whats wrong with them, not being aware its usually not that serious and is mostly in their head.
That's really it. You've got people who are pretty tense and sit by themselves ruminating without any solid frame of reference, and they decide the fact they feel really awkward/get irritated easily/get obsessive/feel emotionally dulled means they must be autistic.

It helps that pervasive internet culture is really hyper-diagnostic to the point where if a person interprets any sense of dissonance between themselves and the world at large, it must mean they have some type of condition that needs to be fixed.
Add in how it's been turned into an identity thing in a very identity-less era, and you've got a recipe for nonsense.

I went on a date with a guy who said early on he had ADHD and was on drugs for it.
Modern dating: where people think it's appropriate to list out their psychiatric diagnosis the same way they'd ask each other what they do for a living.

I felt so cool that I had mild autism until I met someone who had severe autism and I became jealous of all the special treatment they got.

I once volunteered at a summer camp for high functioning autistics and there was a fat kid with 4 toes on each foot and he stomped on mine because he was jealous I had more. I don't know what that has to do with this thread, the subject matter just kinda reminded me of it.

Just because you're not a mouth breathing retard doesn't mean you're not also autistic. If you're HF you can totally pass for normal most of the time, but you could still have the disorder. If it doesn't bother you or interfere with your life, that's fantastic and I'm happy for you, but being a relatively normal guy doesn't mean you're not still a little off.

Though I will say, you're on Kiwifarms. That's a pretty good sign you have autism.

I'm a sperg, but not a "stay at home, watch cartoons all day, non-verbal, punches holes in walls, parents have to take care of me until either they or I die, can't eat anything but tendies" sperg.
Huge difference between different spergs. Like it says on the box, its a spectrum

I met 2 Autistic guys in an old job.

One didn't talk, but the other strongly reminded me of how I was when I was about 13 years old. It was like he was working on a mental script to practice talking to people. If it was Monday or Tuesday he'd ask everyone how their weekend was. From Wednesday onwards he'd ask what plans people had for the weekend. Stuff like that. I did the exact same thing as a kid to try and brute force learn social skills.

A year after meeting this guy, I had been formally diagnosed myself.

With the other non speaking guy, we'd wind up leaving the building at the same time as eachother. I would hold the door for him with no expectation of any form of interaction, not even looking at eachother. After a few weeks he started saying "thank you" - I felt honoured lol.

i am of the genuine belief that you are not autistic if you are not chris chan levels of dysfunctionality or like rain man.
If your autism consists of obsession with obscure media or collecting gafrield merch you are just maladjusted and socially awkward.
Having a special interest is normal even if its something like collecting fire alarms
Even if you were diagnosed it doesn't matter because different doctors will give you different results and a parent can just shop around until they hear something they like

Some notable examples are katboykami and eric taxxon

I never thought I was autistic for even a micro second.

I assumed autism was a meme until I found out about this site.

Just because you met someone who is more autistic than you doesn't make you not autistic. I'm a severely autistic person who likes anime and learns Japanese and even I know that.

Speaking of autism, the Will Ferrell thread in A&N spinned off a thread in Mass Debates, and one of the things posted in the spinoff thread was:
I, like all of my family before me, don't like the natives.

I hate rightoids and I hate the whiney left that *only* focus on social issues and idpol. The only thing that really divides people is class and the CBC partake in upholding the capitalist status quo and the rich owners of it. CBC is an enemy of the working class.
Super autistic.
