I like some of the eighties/nineties stuff when emo was still a weird splinter genre of hardcore/post hardcore. Some of the 90s indie-rock emo is good as well. Not so much into the mainstream 2000s emo music, which was a lot of pop punk meets edgy mall-goth stuff.

Moss Icon were one of the first eighties original "hardcore emo" bands I found. They have that noisy raw punk energy but have started to experiment a bit with the sound.
Heroin are pretty kewl skramz.

A lot of the other "emo" stuff I like is probably closer to the 90s midwest emo scene or a few of the 2000s songs I feel some nostalgia/guilty pleasure for. Original skramz and skramz revival is good but I haven't listened in forever.

I bought a copy of Heroin's one LP a few years ago and the guy from the band sent along a flyer from an old show and a handwritten note. I thought that was pretty cool

I still dig this type of music a lot. It's weird that it was ever a popular trend and on the radio, even the pop mallfag shit. Like Thursday was getting nonstop plays on MTV & Fuse, that seems absurd now

Ah, the era of dyed-black spock haircuts and white belts
