Anyone into Mobile Suit Variations?

I think a few Zakus I have are MSV, like my Zaku 1 mine layer.

Just looked though the Gunpla wiki, I dont own a single MSV kit!

Johnny Ridden stuff always looks cool though, I like the darker red on his suits.

I didnt even know the Perfect Gundam was MSV. Thought it was a custom for the show.

I have an RG Ridden's MS-06R-2 Zaku build, the ZMP don't really mount well on the back and fall off easily, the bazooka in the hands are fine though. Love the decal details.
I wish there was an R2-P Zaku kit though, a rare MSV Zaku with a beam rifle, it is similar enough to the R-2 that you can kitbash some parts to make one I guess.

Call me out for this, but I’m a big fan of Gundam Seed MSV.

Nothing to call out seeing as I didnt even realize they had done a Seed one.

I saw the Astrays in there, did they come from this? I am not a Seed fan so I dont know much about its expanded universe.

This is what I have done of the Marasai as of this morning. Also realized that I didn't put on a barely visible sticker lol. Overall pretty good articulation sans the Ankle, which is slightly pivoted because of the leg thrusters. Will go into more in final review, which should be coming around the weekend. Still I can't recommend this kit enough, love it. Next one I'll be working on is this War in the Pocket kit, the RGM-79GS GM Command Space Gundam, that i thought looked cool.

I had a lot of fun building this before work the past few months, which is part of why it took so long, that and I took a vacation which threw off my rhythm. But it's done now!

Now onto the review. Posing is spectacular for this 05 kit, using a bunch of tricks such as at the shoulders to give it a wide range of motion. Weapon selection is pretty good too, with two swords that clip onto the shield, and his sexy smg Beam Gun. Color separation is also EXTREMELY good. All this guy really would need is a clear coat. Stickers were very painless and easy to apply, same with filing the nubs away. Now asthetics. The backpack is sexy, has that space shuttle vibe going on with all those thruster nozzles, with some on the legs. This blends pretty well with the samauri look.

Now to be fair, I got to find a con. The feet. They aren't the most mobile and tilt inwards a little. That's due to all the GLORIOUS thrusters, but still, you'll have to splay them out a bit. Personally I'd recommend a stand if you're really bothered.

Overall I love him. I'm going to be displaying him proudly on my shelf for a long while. Thanks for keeping up with my progress guys! Next is the RGM-79GS Space Command Gundam!

I do like the color separation here. As far as mono eyes go the Marasai is pretty cool!

With the feet, are they loose at all? If so you can probably fix that when you coat, make sure you coat the joints and it will stiffen them up. Also can use light coats of glue on the socket.

The feet are fine, it's just the shell limits the range of motion. All the joints feel really good, something I didn't mention

Gotcha. A big issue with mono eyes is poseability. I tend to just make mine stand straight like yours is here, having them all in a row like soldiers at attention.

This kit is from 05, if you liked it I would highly recommend anything from the Origins line. Origins probably has the best HG kits, and theres a wide variety of Zakus to choose from.

I see. Yeah despite the kit being from 05, they went above and beyond to make it as mobile as possible, the pictures don't really show it, but he can move quite a bit.

I actually just ordered a Zaku lol, it's coming in a few days, kit HGUC #241. Luckily I can always get another Zaku, army building man. As long as it's a better build than my Hi-Zack (review in the multimedia thread) I'm going to be happy.

Congrats of finishing the build, the eye isn't as prominent due to lack of glow sadly.
If you're up for it, you could also try RG builds, very detailed, but also pain in the ass tiny decals to place with medical tweezers. I really need more UC83 and UC87 stuff, all the Zaku variations.

Edit: One of my Thunderbolt Zaku (color is fucky, it was shot with a modified IR camera), the eye is pretty prominent.

I actually got the RG MK-II Gundam, this one

I've just been doing a lot of HG's first to build up to him, as I want him to look really nice. And yes, I am fearing the stickers, luckily my building kit comes with tweezers. I might start him after the Space GM, which is going well, started this morning

Also your Thunderbolt Zaku looks sick. I'll have to watch Thunderbolt sometime, maybe after Zeta

When you get an hour watch at least the first movie. Great animation. music and mech designs. The guy who writes Thunderbolt was basically given permission to write his own fan fiction and he redesigned a lot of the UC suits. FA-78 and Psycho are some of the coolest designs in the series.

I am looking forward to CCA, not gonna lie, but again, once I get thru Zeta lol. ZZ will happen when it happens. Also I checked out The Origin suits. Sexy. Probably gonna snag Char's Zaku II once I build a few more of my backlog (I have a lot lol). Might move onto the RG MK II I have, or the Hyaku Shyiki HG I have, just to have some hero Zeta suits out on display.

How the fuck do I paint while also hiding seam lines? I snap fit this Barbatos HG and am confused how I can disassemble > prime > glue/assemble > paint? Or is it disassemble > prime > paint > glue/assemble? How do I paint it and do a good job while also doing seam hiding?

I am not skilled at this but theres a few guides out there.

This video is not a tutorial, but this guy seems to do multiple test assemblies before final paint.

I am so fucked.

I didn’t quite know how big my backlog was until I pulled it all out. We are doing spring cleaning at the moment and I decided to organize my gundam shelf. I have so much work ahead of me. I’ve had some of these kits for years!

Luckily the Hi Nu, Transient and zeta are partially built, and I can knock the HGs out pretty quick.

I have the exact same problem, but I didn't realize I was burned out on model building until I already had like 12 MGs stacked in my spare bedroom. Now they're just taking up space.
