USA Gundam Store is reputable but their website isn't great and neither is their inventory. Their shipping is also $10 so I don't usually buy from them unless I'm making a big order. I like BBTS because of their flat-rate $4 shipping and their great selection on kits.

Amazon is having a crazy sale on Barbatos MG 1/100 kits. $45 I think, maybe even less if there's a coupon available.
I've got mine coming in soon. Anyone got ideas on how to customize it?

Thanks for the heads-up. $5-10 off, plus quick and free shipping, is a pretty big discount than buying it from my usual sources and this was a kit I’d been meaning to pick up at some point anyways. I’m probably going to do a half-armored build, maybe with an “exploded view” on the unarmored side with the shells “floating” on wire or transparent rods. I love how much detail MG’s have on the frame, it’s a shame they get hidden by all the smooth armor.

Just pre-ordered one of the june re-releases of the HGUC victory 2nd, might kitbash it with some other stuff from my parts bins but I'm unsure exactly what to try.
Also, on a more general hobby trend; if you like Patlabor, specifically Patlabor's 2nd movie, and you also like building model planes, check out these links on HLJ:

a bunch of patlabor stuff was announced at WonFes this year, including both of these model jets. I've already nabbed the F-16 Night Falcon with a blue acrylic stand, I plan to use it to learn in-depth about airbrushing.

To hell with this chest! I've built Frame Arms. I've built Zeta Gundam MG. I've built Wing Ver. Ka 2020 and I've even built ultra rare old kits. I've been through enough to say that there has never been a more obnoxious pain in the ass than Barbatos MG's stupid ass chest wheels, and only because the plastic can break so easy with the slightest push like it's just hard rubber and the instructions are drawn by flippered sewer mutants!!

I'm taking the fattest break after this thing's done. I'm going full Miura. My hiatus is gonna be years! I had to look up a video guide to know what I was doing wrong because of these bare ass retarded ass instructions I hope the jackass who wrote this choked on a riceball and slipped and broke his straw hat the moonrune prick

the pistons are fun though

Edit: Okay, so actually that first panel for the chest I posted is the only bad part. The rest is easy actually. It's just a bit tedious.
Hate how brittle some of the simpler hinges are like for the front half of the foot or the shoulder armor.

Still havnt received word on when my glow in the dark RX-78 will be shipped. Decided to order a Uraven Core Gundam. Does anyone know if I buy the Aegis Knight, Wodom and Valkylander, can I make the Re:Rising or do I need more parts?

Yes, you can make the Re:Rising. Those 4 kits contain parts for combining. I got the manual for the Re:Rising combination from Aegis Knight kit.

I recently bought the Studio rise Buzz model kit, and I know it's not gundam specifically but it's the same company and building process more or less. I got this with the intention of painting his green a more accurate shade of weird pea soup green to the actual toy story films. The closest things I can find are glow in the dark craft paints that I think I'll need to mix to get the color right. I haven't built it yet, but I also haven't painted any kits I've made before and have no idea how to approach this. I have a Similar issue with some kotobukiya kits I still have to build I got last year in the sense of I still haven't built them nor worked out exactly what paints I need. Doesn't help that scalpers online since corona broke out have just been hiking the price of both model kits and paints to extremely absurd degrees online. Kotobukiya stuff especially in terms of the kits has spiked from like 30-50 to 70-200 for quite a few of them overnight back around some point last year.

Long story short I'm just knee deep in the fucking unfinished kit hell.

Alright so I built the Barbatos MG and I gotta say this thing sucks [for what I was hoping for]. I really like the details, the actual pistons, the solidity and just about everything else that every reviewer has mentioned, but two major points make it suck to me:
1. These wrists are crap. They're solid, sure, but you have an awkward angle of movement because they aren't simple ball-joints. It's a just a hinge that turns at certain angles.
[Edit: I mean that the wrist has a peg that sticks into the arm which can turn 360 in a circle but the connection point to the hand is a straight forward-back hinge with only one side extension (which hyper extends to the outside of the hand, as seen below), so when you're moving the hand you end up straining the hinge instead of the actual spinning wrist joint in the arm. I might be explaining it retarded but the point is they had to fix what wasn't broken just to make the Barbatos kit special. I keep thinking it's gonna break because I can never get used to it compared to a simple ball joint and hinge.]
wrist trash.png
wrist trash2.png

2. The hands are complete ass. They work very well for their weaponry (the mace spear is a but wonky but the thumb helps). You see, unlike making typical Gundam hands but sharp they opted to make a strange deep rigged semicircle in the palms. The grooves of the palms cling to the grooves of the sword hilt perfectly but they don't stick into the shaft of the mace spear, instead forcing you to rely on just pushing it into the semicircle and hoping for the best. As I said, it works fine enough, but I've repeatedly had the fingers pop off on me because I wanted to move it in a certain way but the wrists are retarded and the shaft isn't really gripped at all.

TL;DR It's everything you'd expect but it's designed uniquely, so uniquely that I can't imagine kitbashing this. I had wanted to buy some M.S.G Kotobukiya weapons and extra arms, but the wrist holes are too specific for these hands and the Barbatos hands can't really hold any other weapons but their own. At best you can swap out the legs for another kit's legs. The head connection is specific, the arms are attached via a secure joint with pistons, so removing them is a no-go, and the holes for the backpack aren't common 3mm so you can't attach anything else in there easily.

If you buy the Barbatos you're only buying the Barbatos. There is no future for modifications with this thing, not without some really creative reworking. Overall the thing just bugs me with its unique mechanics because I feel like I'm gonna break something or loosen something. It's a rigid build but the design of it is as unorthodox as I've ever experienced.

Final note: The parts separation makes this a massive pain in the ass to recolor. It's doable but the white pieces are so layered that you're better off leaving it as-is once it's built. It's fine since the white plastic doesn't look plastic but has a sort of light, smooth matte texture to it, and after a little panel lining it looks great. Here's the inside of the cockpit, too:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

It's so claustrophobic compared to the Wing Zero but I guess that's the IBO design. I do like the little locking mechanism in there, though.

Also the C joints for the pauldrons and front half of the feet are objectively terrible. The shoulder armor and foot on the left side of my kit are loose as hell and needed some glue to tighten up because the plastic is so flimsy it stretches and strains when putting the joint together. The ankle and shoulder is fine, though.

So yeah, I always take a critical stab at these things. If you're still interested despite what I said then go for it. The sale is still going on Amazon right now. It's not what I was hoping for but it's not garbage. Just remember: consult a video build once you start the chest. Don't rage like me.

It can't hold M.S.G. weapons? Damn. I'm planning to buy MG Barbatos, so I can use the Unite Sword I got from a friend with it. Scratch that plan I guess. As for modification and recolor, someone made a Gusion Rebake colored MG Barbatos.

That's not a modified kit, though it is a great recolor. A fantastic recolor, actually! I guess if I bother to un-build it and strip it down to its parts again I can do something cool like that, but personally I was hoping to make it into a nifty monstrosity of a kit. The problem as I said is its unique wrists, the lack of common 3mm holes and especially the asinine holding hand palms having a protruding ridged semicircle. Mind you, that semicircle's ridges fit perfectly into the sword or the two attached parts of the mace's spearhead (which can be used like smaller swords). However it simply can't reliably hold any other kind of weapon.

Usually you'd have gunpla MG hands which can tab into a beam saber handle but can still grip onto other things, too. Dynames and Wing Zero are good examples if I recall. Even if older kits' hands weren't sufficient you'd be able to buy alternative hands from Bandai or Kotobukiya support packs, yet the Barbatos's forearms are atypical, too. The hands themselves have a notched peg thing that fit somewhat deeply into the arm, and the diameter of the hole plus the notches make it so you really can't fit any other hands in there.

hands.jpg

That ridged semicircle between the middle and ring fingers is thick, too, and doesn't hold the spear shaft very well unless you fiddle with it and hang the thumb around it. In that way it works well enough but this is what I meant by the thing being a pain in the ass.
I really don't know why they didn't just do a typical tab or natural fit to the fingers like other gunpla or Kotobukiya hands. I can't see it holding a different weapon very well at all, not as stable as it holds its own anyway.

It's a good kit unto itself aside from the flaws I mentioned, rather worth the 40~50 price tag, but just wasn't the kind of thing I was hoping for. They shouldn't have fixed what wasn't broken.

Also the red chin piece, kind of like its beard, falls out at a mild breeze and it's very easy to lose. Glue that on or just leave it off.

Edit: Also the Unite Sword is a really cool accessory with a lot of fun combination parts to it. Cool friend.

I'm hoping a kit i ordered from China will find its way stateside soon, or somewhere close (according to tracking, it was put on a plane and arrived at a hub somewhere). Its not a gunpla kit per se, closer to something like Frame Arms Girl/Megami Device but from an unknown model maker (Nuke Matrix is the name) and its from a manhua called Chu Feng (there is an anime series of it but not too much info, from what I seen its literally girl with mechanical bee abdomen (?) connected to her battles genetically engineered weapons to protect a guy that is apparently important in a vague way). The model looked pretty nice (the version I got is colored to mach the animation and is slightly retooled (I think)) and she has nice "assets" (girl comes packing heat and "heat"). At least I'm not so virgin to buy a mod part to give her bare boobs (it exist on eBay, I know why... its for people that have "too much fun" with their models). Hopefully it should show up soon and can tell if I recommend any future Nuke Matrix Kits (they have more on the way, but this was the only one to get except the original run). I attached a picture of what the kit looks like 4ebd01e59e.jpg

My glow in the dark kit finally shipped out of nowhere, got the confirmation email last night.

My collection has taken over almost an entire bookshelf at this point I think I need to start storing some of my crappier kits. DO you guys just ziploc them and put them in a box or is there a better way to store old kits.

My glow in the dark
I'll never stop having a reflexive "CIA?" reaction when reading these words, even in a gunpla thread. Aww Terry

lol Once you start building that big of a collection I think it's time to resell in bulk and make some money. That or you buy a glass door cabinet or glass case and line them up on the shelves in there, away from the dust.
I remember thinking, "Man, I'd never get into this hobby. Maybe just one or two is fine." Now I have twelve. Well...eleven. The twelfth is a snow diorama.

Please tell me you used Fed Ex or UPS or something else. Please, please tell me you didn't use USPS.

Hey, I once saw a fully detailed and posable Taimanin Asagi figure (complete with retarded nipple accessories) and almost thought to buy it "just because". Thankfully it was over a hundred dollars so I didn't, or else I might've had to either hide my shame or explain to potential dates, "No, see, I only bought this ahegao hentai figure ironically."

Anyway, I'm not a fan of anything other than mecha when it comes to model kits but even I gotta say that looks really cool. Those are my favorite rifles, too, and I like the bee fuzz around her neck like a scarf. She looks good and not embarrassing. Good job, mate.

Sadly it was USPS... show.z only ships that way, but im not too worried because I've been eyeing more kits to build due to stimmy check coming soon. One kit is a cat girl and transformable jet combo, specifically the one in the image 71Af3wHso7L._AC_SX425_.jpg
And the other is a mom in build fighters turned into ship (small detail, I like older women more but it helps that I'm nearing 30 so its not too awkward)

The final kit im eyeing for the time being is Dappy's family (the beargguy f kit) so that way he can be happy all the time :)

I know having a Rinko kit is tempting, especially since they got all her proportions right and made her into a funny looking Azure Lane kinda thing, but I hear horror stories about that kit and most Bandai girl kits. Bandai can't into girls like Kotobukiya or other kinds of kits, it seems, since most of them collapse or are too flimsy. You might be able to tighten it up with glue on the connectors and waiting for it to dry before putting them together but still, fair warning.

I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if you can find it for dirt cheap. Or maybe you can find that female mecha from Bandai that looks like Sailor Moon crossed with Gundam. That one looks hilariously great.

Thanks for the warning, I wasn't aware of that issue beforehand but if I was able to get the legioss still in one piece (don't want to handle, because the plastic is so flimsy on that thing) it shouldn't be too hard to keep her together, just means I have to be careful... not really into sticker eyes but I can always probably source waterside if need be (she'll just be a slight custom (i can use the waterside from the other kit), will look interesting, if I do that, I don't mind).

I don't know if all gundam tubers are hated, but this guys review of the kit isn't bad and goes over what to expect.
Only found this guy through his Premium Bandai shitpost

Which brings up the question that's probably already been asked before, but are there any gundam tubers you guys watch?
Currently it's mostly Kakarot197 as a favorite with YouSeeGundam being a newer channel I'm peaking through to see if I like. ZakuAurelius is pretty okay if a bit long/boring and I can't stand Mecha Gaikotsu since he's loud and manhandles his kits while complaining they're flimsy.

Thanks for the watching material, I'll check it later because I'm still kinda in a razzled state (long story short nailed a deer with my car this morning and I'm waiting for my meds to kick in due to not taking them this morning (don't worry my car is very minimal in damage done and still runs fine, I'm fine, deer has been slain mercifully I hope.))

Edit: just watched and I am still getting it, I've dealt with minipla before so small stickers don't bother me (if they did I can flipper hand some paint detail) and the hand joints I can work with, nothing that some filing and exacto magic can't fix (I hope).
