Anything Good Anymore? - Specifically recently released good media.

Man, this has been utterly depressing. You guys all got nothing? Not a random comic, or a small channel or an indie you found on steam?

I would say to stop using mainstream social media almost entirely as any sort of reference point. Stop relying on recommendation algorithms and asking people to suggest things and just hang around with people or in places that share common interests with you (the YouTube homepage and the Twitter feed aren't "hanging around")

Any decent enough good show these days, once a fandom is created and latched on, becomes absolute dog shit. You have one, maybe two, good seasons before it inevitably happens.

I can't even think of a decent movie released within the last decade if not longer than been any good.

I tune out of shit almost instantly once I start seeing people making fanart at scale. I can't stand the fucking shit. I got into Deadlock recently and after seeing the plebbit filled to the brim with fanart it turned me off the game almost entirely (besides the game changing a lot itself).

Usually and especially nowadays it really helps to go into stuff completely blind and to not read reviews or recommendations or anything for this reason and just watch/read/play shit if you're actually engaged by it and just stop if you don't find it appealing. The internet is teeming with commentary and feedback about every single niche possible and its at the point that its basically overwhelming and I find detracts from the material itself - its sort of the same as how people spend 2 hours on the netflix homoscreen to try and find something instead of just taking a blind dive.

I'm intrigued. Pirate link?
I'm pretty unsophisticated I just use comick.io. Using tachiyomi or any of the alternatives is a good idea. Infact, here is my full "gold star gookshit list:
- SSS rank suicide hunter
- Lazy Lord Masters the Sword
- Dungeon Reset
- The Boxer
- Cheolsu Saves the World
- Pick Me Up!
- Hero Has Returned (Also Known as Warrior has Returned)
- Sweet Home (Sequel, Shotgun Boy)
- Regresser Instruction Manual
- Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
- The S Classes That I Raised
- Magic Academy Survival Guide
- Knight Under My Heart
- I became the Tyrant of the Defense Game
- Hellcraft
- Eternally Regressing Knight
- Dungeon Odyssey
- A Gate Opened on my first day as a Politician

If you have the same tastes as me this should keep anyone fed for awhile. And these are the stories I keep as just being exceptional in some way, my main reading list is far longer.

Edit: Jesus, how did I forget How To Fight and Return of the Mount Hua Sect?
I was just rereading Mount Hua for the second time recently.

While thinking about it, same can be said for online games and why I just haven't bothered playing them. Except for Rust, but sometimes I enjoy torturing myself.

Everyone is hyper focused on finding the latest meta that you're no longer just enjoying the game and having fun. Skill and reflexes are still needed, but so is using the same loadout/skins/whatever as everyone else just so you have a chance.

Yeah a big part about entertainment is really about embracing boredom. You have to embrace being bored to have fun in a world filled with non-stop everlasting entertainment and that means stopping looking for shit or researching it in advance.

I recently picked up some really dumb game (it was sort of like Risk of Rain 2) I stumbled upon really randomly and put many hours into it, trying to beat it (it was a very simple concept). I waited several days before googling it and found a video (one of only a few videos of the game) and realized that I hadn't read the instructions of something I was picking up properly, so before that I had tried all sorts of other creative ways of doing things.

Factorio is really great and the best if you really want to be hyperfocused on shit and you can just build your own meta in it.

When I've found myself in these funks, what I've found useful is to just try and pick up a new skill. Direct your energy into learning something and the process of improvement. Doesn't have to be something super practical or complex, like for me it was just baking. You might be needing to broaden your horizons and push yourself out of the comfort zone of purely digital pursuits. Surprise yourself, to put it another way.

If you want to stick with games you could try learning a genre you never usually give the time of day. I always shill fighting games (my profile is a fighting game gimmick), and there are plenty of great resources to pick up the bare basics to develop some good fundamentals. And this exists in any genre.

Really I think it just comes down to focusing your attention on something specific. I've been laying around for almost two weeks straight now and bored out of my skull, and the cure really is to just get up and do anything.

This is the way. I got bored of all my old hobbies so I took up learning a musical instrument. I have a separate browser dedicated to that which doesn't get infected with distracting shit. Even though I'm still terrible at it I enjoy my daily practice and the escapism/meditation playing music provides. I've even started going to weekly group practice sessions in my area and playing music with others. Probably the best thing in my life right now. I really recommend it.

I don't think you're going to feel intellectually or creatively satisfied by just subbing to some new channels. It takes more effort than that.

Mouthwashing is fantastic. Its short game 2-3 hours about a freighter crew that becomes stranded after colliding with an asteroid and the ensuing chaos that comes as a result of cabin fever and supplies running low. Its less of a game and more of a short interactive film, but either way its truly fantastic and I highly recommend it.
