Apocalypse Story Cliches

Giant radioactive scorpions, and bad-ass experimental vehicles. Maybe some dirt bikes.

Normal every day medical conditions that require constant medication magically never seem to effect anyone unless their is some form of plot line that requires it being focused on, and then after the problem is resolved it's never referred to again.
I think it was Lucifers Hammer that had a critical technical expert die from diabetes before they could re-learn how to rend rabbits into insulin.

I loved that book.

The whole thing about hiding books in the septic tank always struck me as brilliant.

Zombie movies where nobody bothers to wear protective clothing against bites (how hard can it be to find a motorcycle jacket, helmet and gloves so you're a less easily eaten running buffet?)

Now that was something well-handled in 28 Days Later (for one scene, anyway). Someone uses a riot shield to hold the zombie horde back.

That said, zombies managing to bite through denim! They're still using normal human teeth. Sure, they could inflict a crush wound, especially as their limiters on muscle exertion are theoretically turned off, but they shouldn't be able to actually break your skin through your jeans.

People who aren't able to produce electrical working devices or any technology that goes beyond the industrial revolution, despite being a lot of ways that you could make it work.
