While I'd say that Reddit makes things worse overall for the internet, Twitter is very clearly more damaging IRL. Through some terrible series of social errors that future historians will have to parse through, Twitter has become a nexus for journalists, celebrities, and even politicians to spew their soapbox idiocy through a megaphone - and this is regrettably substituted for actual, thoughtful discourse or critique. The 200-character limit ensures that context for one's statements are a thing of the past - the "new age" of digital debate consists entirely of picking and choosing which sentence-long snippet to quote out of context in order to damn one's opponents. Adding to this, of course, is the fact that Twitter's administrative staff are themselves ruthless ideologues who are hellbent on expunging any opinion, account, or even entire topic heretical to their chosen doctrine. The willful suppression of certain viewpoints in conjunction with the site's ubiquity creates what is an essence an echo chamber for a political sect along with a few appointed (blue checkmarked, that is) mouthpieces who espouse the vast majority of Twitter's visible content.

Eh, it's a tough one, but I have to go with Twitter. Reddit, for all it's awfulness, can produce something of value. Whether that's something informative, funny, or actually interesting. That being said, attempting to have an opposing discussion on Reddit is as fruitless as yelling at a brick wall. The good news is that Reddit's awfulness tends to contain itself on its own site.

Twitter on the other hand has never produced anything of value. The majority of its userbase are the bottom of the barrel, pants-on-head-retarded people on the internet. Proudly posting their shitty takes with other drooling mongoloids. Not only that but, Twitter's garbage tends to leak irl more often than not. Affecting the target in a professional or personal way if the mobs that the platform enables are determinant enough. Plus it's easier to ban evade on Reddit than it is on Twitter.

On one hand...in general, redditors are even stupider than tumblr users. However, stupidity and circlejerk hugboxes are things you see on a daily basis on the internet, there's simply a higher concentration of that on Reddit. Reddit is full of circlejerking dipshits who've never had an original thought in their life, but I can still remember at one point it wasn't that bad. There were smaller subreddits for hobbies, tech, history ect.. that had informative and decent people contributing. It wasn't much, but it was something.

I've never seen the value of Twitter. It (and Facebook) has always seemed like they're just overflowing with literal retards who never should have been allowed access to the internet in the first place. Twitter is much, much worse.

With Reddit, it's possible to completely avoid the idiocy by sticking to niche subreddits. With Twitter, idpol sperging is impossible to avoid; even if one tries to stick as closely to one's preferred niche(s) as possible. I've unfollowed retrogamers on Twitter whose feeds of cool and interesting retro gaming screenshots are interrupted by bursts of either TDS or Brexit-grade gammon.

That's basically just Usenet though. That's been around since the 70s.

and in theory the best posts are the easiest to find, unlike on forums.

This part is not like Usenet, but in practice Reddit doesn't function that way anyway and up/downvotes have become agree/disagree buttons.
