There's some overlap, but neckbeards are those with the poor hygiene that never realized you're supposed to groom your beard if you grow one. Some neckbeards are overly masculine in the adolescent way (smelly, autistic, nogirls, miniaturepainting, raspberry pie programming). Whereas soyboys are more effeminate, girly voices, open mouthed, console playing. Neckbeards are more like comic book guy from the simpsons. Soyboys are more like big bang theory kinda guys.

There are differences between them, but both groups are part of why I always go clean-shaven and why I generally dislike beards on anyone under the age of 50.

You can like stereotypical "geek" interests without being either a neckbeard or a soyboy.

Shave your beard and shower every day and practice good personal hygiene, don't be a woke simp but also don't go out of your way to be an edgelord either, and just dress normally in clean clothes. Try to avoid any clothing associated with hipster culture or stereotypical edgelord attire like fedoras and trench coats (well, trench coats might be acceptable in certain climates if you're outdoors in the middle of winter and you dress normally underneath the coat) and just don't be a total autist in front of the "normies".

If you're at work or class, hide your power level. Don't go on about Marvel or vidya unless someone explicitly asks you about it. Don't bring up religion or politics as a general rule and always keep in mind that real life is NOT the same as the internet when it comes to what is acceptable public behavior.

It's mostly just practicing basic common sense stuff that separates someone who merely geeky interests and hobbies from a true soyboy or neckbeard.
