They're a symptom of a bigger problem that's been affecting the Internet as a whole and is now seeping into the forum. The problem of people no longer finding joy in having actual discussions or talking about things that they like, but finding joy in being perpetually mad, and when they don't have a reason to be mad, they'll make one up by creating a two tribe divide where they'll be able to kickstart a rage war over the most miniscule of things. Men vs Women is one of those divides, the others you can point to is the Zoomers vs Millennials, Russia vs Ukraine, or Windows vs Linux. Something as plain as the kind of OS you use, the year you were born in, the country you were born in, or the gender you were born as is now turned into a powder keg, ready to blow whenever someone feels the need for that anger kick and stir shit up.
It's everywhere nowadays, 4chan is probably the best example of what it ultimately leads to where ragebaiting is the main type of content people engage in (aside from porn ofc), all the FAANG algorithms are tuned for exactly that, where YouTube will show you irrelevant recommendations to what you're watching, but they will be about politics, war, and everything that induces negative emotions, and it persists outside the online world in mass media. And even if you do recognize it, you know it's harmful, that it fucks with you and you should stop looking at it, it has became such a vice that it's hard to beat. I tried and I constantly failed to cut myself off.
The best part is that people that are seriously addicted to anger will look at an analysis like that and find a reason to attack it, just to fuel another anger war. They fail to recognize the problem anymore, it became a second nature to them, and the sad part is that a sizable chunk of the website and it's user base has fallen to that demon, which slowly turns the site's focus from having a laugh together to weeping alone, paraphrasing a certain quote.
It's an endless cycle that serves no one. It wires your brain to be constantly angry, upset, and by extent sad, depressed and empty, which I'd say is the second big plague of the modern Internet era right behind pornography, yet no one ever pays it any mind and just how badly it affects everyone, including themselves.
To be fair, this angle of discussion deserves it's own Mass Debates/Deep Thoughts thread, both in the scope of this site and the Internet as a whole. The moid vs foid bullshit is just the tip of the iceberg.
