Are there any alternatives to Google/Bing?

Kind of, and frankly right now I'm too sad to really look for a better place to lay down this digital headstone. WebOasis has a very... polarizing appearance. I am not sure if it was ironic or unironic, it was however one of the most useful websites I have ever known. I also did not know until today that there were forums either, when I was linked there from the front page I tried to make an account for archival purposes. Unless my registration is approved I can only see the linked post:

You can read more through the links. I'd prefer to focus on this last bit to be useful and distract myself. Anyone to bring this back to the topic at hand, the search included worked well enough. More importantly it had a list of some 95 URLs selected by Webby as being particularly useful. Since it is undetermined when the site will go down and if there will be a replacement I decided to compile a list of all 95 to archive here. If I get approval or learn anything of relevance I will edit this post to add to the digital funeral pyre.

List

RIP Webby 1992-2022
Don't forget, you're here forever.

Edit: It seems users were able to fork and begin a new site at https://weboasis.app/

I don't have any suggestions, just one to avoid. The Brave search engine is garbage. If you search something too specific, it just shits out on you. It only shows a handful of results for most things you search. It's still better than Google though, which is depressing.

Yandex's reverse imagesearch shits all over googles

Is it just me? Or has Google search actively become worse? I'm damn sure somethings being done on the backend. I used to be able to find obscure pics easy about 5 years ago. Even web searches seem... off somehow. I don't have any hard proof, but my experience in using Google over the years tells me somethings not right.

Yes its gone to shit. Literally can't find anything relevant to my searches.

I agree with the other guy on yandex reverse image search. It works much better than google/bing image search.

Unironically, yandex.com.
Their image search is god tier. Once I was searching for a symbol I had seen and thought looked cool but couldn't find any information on (a weird kind of yin-yang symbol, but with three parts and kind of angular). I drew it in GIMP from memory as well as I could, and dropped it into Google's image search. I got a lot of triskelions, the crest of the Ryukyu kingdom, some recycling symbols, but not what I was looking for. I didn't know Yandex had an image search like Google's until much later, but when I dropped the image into their image search, the first result was exactly what I was looking for.
My only complaint about it is that sometimes it turns up VK results like Google turns up Pintrest.

I'm actually trying it out it as my default. It's okay for when you want to search for something, but I go to others when I'm actually researching something. Fortunately, they've stolen the bangs from Duckduckgo, so I can just "thing !g, !bi, or !yandex" when needed.

Depends on what you are using it for and where are you. Google is shitty but imo still a top choice, though I have barely any exp with DDG. Yandex is a garbage, though its pic search is kinda ok. Yandex indexes non-Russian pages in a shitty way, it is censored by russky goverment faggots (if you are not some reseracher and not from Rus, it should be ok though), its browser and plugins are basicly malware.

IIRC, the only real crawlers are Google, Bing, Brave, Petal, Yandex, and maybe one or two others. Every other search engine I'm aware of just repackages the results from one of these. (Brave does - or at least did - use Bing for images, which someone else already pointed out.)

I personally prefer Brave and DuckDuckGo, although I use Google and Bing occasionally in certain situations. I've also used Ecosia a bit, and found it ok.

Just to update this thread, Brave Search is meh. Phone and copy pasting seems fubared, but searching for Ethan Ralph 'alt-right podcaster' results in basically Reddit (eg r\destiny), Commie crap, and some of his own stuff comes way before the 'Farms. Not terribly impressed.

I've been impressed with Brave search. 20% of the time its results are better than Google, 60% its about par, 20% its worse and I just !g search.

Between Protonmail/their calendar, Brave search, Brave browser/Librewolf, and LineageOS, what I really need to finish off google in my life is a good replacement for google maps. Waze might be better but its still fucking owned by Google.
