Fuuuuuck......not even a pooner deserves locked-in syndrome. Talk about an utter nightmare scenario. And I wonder how many cases of this condition were missed, and living people were pronounced brain-dead and essentially murdered and possibly autopsied while still alive and watching/feeling it happen?

There's a Stephen King short story in the collection "Everything's Eventual" that is from the POV of a golfer bitten by a snake that gave him this condition dropping all his vitals to the point everyone thought he was dead and was on the goddamn autopsy table listening to the tech and doctor fucking around, the rectal probe to get his 'corpse's' temp before the cutting etc.

This story disturbed the fuck out of me, and I am not easily disturbed.

I have just searched for hours and cannot find any definitive confirmation of her death. Couldn't even find anything beyond slight rumours.
