I definitely believe that transbians are 'real' in that they are genuinely attracted to other trans people like them. However what proportion of them are that way simply due to their natural wiring, due to necessity/convenience, due to mental illness etc etc is a whole other story. At a guess most are just bi/pan/whateverspecialsnowflakedefinitionforfindingattractioninbothgendersispopularthesedays but can relate to other trans people more than they can with others so it's easier to bond and form relationships with other transexuals, and I'd assume the second most common type are those whose brains are fucking rotted by porn/AGP etc.
