Are values worth keeping anymore?

Sorry, I've never bought this and never will. Not having to worry about whether or not bills are getting paid, ESPECIALLY medical ones, is objectively a positive. Not having to worry if the next car repair is going to bankrupt you is objectively good. Being able to live comfortably without slowly destroying your body in a physical job or your mind in an office job is an objectively positive thing. If I can live simply doing the dumb hobbies I love with the woman I love in a safe estate away from people fucking driving me insane, how is that long term bad for me?
This is a very big conversation, and perhaps we just see things differently, but from my perspective, most of that shit you are paying for is worthless. I bet you can see more extreme examples from your own perspective, people who pay for lots of subscriptions and waste money on doordash I think its called, take out, however its done now. You can see them as just pissing away money of frivolous shite, well consider me on the extreme end of that scale. Beyond basics, everything else is a choice.

Medical bills are wonkey for me, as I am in the UK so I get raped on the regular with my taxes to pay for that shit, but at least its no cost to use. Americans seem to pay for a socialised health care system, as well as a private one as well. Tale as old as time really, taxes fuck us no matter what bit of land we live on.

I won't say you're entirely wrong when it comes to, say, my hobbies of collecting old wargames and a CCG noone plays anymore, but then again even that serves a function fiddling around with them, it gives at least some peace of mind.

That's why I also cite things like medical expenses, heat, a roof over your head that won't fall down, ect...

True, but I blame that on me just being old. I didn't grow up with that, so don't see the point really. Same with the internet, though there'd be a withdrawal period.

I don't know WHAT the fuck our system is. It's like the worst of all worlds.

I'll never forget right wingers calling me a Communist for actually proposing trying concierge/flat rate clinics.

Yup.

First, gotta know the difference between right and wrong. That helps form values.

Second, keep your eyes and ears open. Pay attention to what's going on, what people do. You'll know if they are doing right or wrong, using the "gut radar", more accurate than any electronic set.

Know what you will and will not fall on your sword for. But if you stand for everything, you stand for nothing.

Knowing you are not and will never be perfect, don't sweat it. Just do your best. When you make a mistake, fix it and move on. Always try to do right, and have the guts to do the harder right thing instead of the easier wrong thing. Think for yourself; not everyone has your best interests in mind.

If you are always able to look "the man in the mirror" in the eye, chances are you're doing all right.

I figure they're called values for a reason. If you value nothing, how can you even determine whether it's "worth" keeping values?

Yes, there are plenty of bugmen these days (and probably throughout a lot of history) who simply live because they wake up every morning and thus have no values, they biologically exist and go through their day via habit/instinct, but if you're examining your own existence to decide if it's worth keeping values then that means you have values by default. And if your existence isn't conscious, then you may as well not be alive anyways.

I think value assessments are a fundamental element of consciously processing the world. You can value different things, but if you're making decisions then you must have values of some kind.

If you literally believe that if you lose, you'll be dead, your family and children and dogs will be brainwashed and raped, and they'll think it's funny, and you willingly choose to lose, what does that say about you and your values?
