Listen man, I'm trying to be as nice as possible when I say this but your mother did not have a good grasp on Jesus's teachings. I'm sure she was very nice but I need to stress this. Everyone has their own opinion, but something that runs a through-line between all classical interpretations of Christianity is when Jesus told people they should stand for the GREATER good, or to not follow him. All this 'be nice for niceness sake' and 'love everybody' shit is literally satanic since it's a comfortable corruption that leads to long term destruction. God loves us so He spells out his messages in all of nature, so He creates beauty and wonder and marvels that we then imitate. God especially loves us because He gives us the chance to choose between right and wrong instead of not having the choice and, therefor, not actually possessing the rightness, the goodness, that's set out in front of us like a glorious feast. We CHOOSE to do wrong, we CHOOSE to corrupt the nature of things, we CHOOSE to be bitter at others over our own choices, the same as the devil chose to turn from the light because he loved himself more than the greater good. God loves us enough to let us make our own choices, but as Jesus taught they must be the right choices, not just whatever is the most comfortable or enjoyable in the moment, but that which allows us to fulfill ourselves in the long-term. You don't go around judging others constantly, that's bitterness and resentfulness and a trick of this fallen world. You do judge yourself, constantly. You forgive others and you levy all possible criticism on yourself so that when your bell finally tolls it will toll pure and untainted with the mud and ash of this temporary life. There is only one truth, it remains the truth no matter what happens, so if you love yourself the way God loves you, you would focus on that beam of light that is minuscule compared to the darkness but still always conquers it.That’s what Jesus teaches us.
